Today we’d like to introduce you to Scarlett Ross
Hi Scarlett, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I actually began my career in modeling, working with brands like Sephora and participating in events like the Southern Women’s Show, even traveling to auditions in New Orleans. It was during this time that I first picked up a camera, initially to take headshots for my own composite cards. From there, I started photographing the world around me—people, nature, even architecture—and quickly developed a passion for capturing beauty in everyday moments.
At 19, I joined a photography studio, where I learned the essential techniques of portrait photography. When my first child was born, I began taking photos of her, capturing every holiday and milestone. I wanted professional pictures but couldn’t afford them at the time, so I leaned on my skills to create those special memories myself.
As my confidence grew, I started entering photo competitions and eventually had my work showcased in galleries alongside other artists in cities like Berlin and Milan. That recognition motivated me to continue improving and pushing myself creatively.
Now, with two children, a loving and supportive husband, and an incredible network of family and friends, I’ve launched my own photography business—Scarlett Ross Photography. The name reflects my goal of helping clients see their own beauty and confidence, bringing it into sharp focus, just as I see it through the lens.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been an easy journey by any means. I’m still in the process of building my business and constantly forming new relationships. Every day, I’m learning new techniques and skills to improve, not just as a photographer, but as an entrepreneur. Balancing work and family life is also a challenge, and while some days are tougher than others, we always manage to make it work.
That being said, I’ve been fortunate to have opportunities and people who have supported me along the way, and I’m incredibly grateful for that. Without their guidance and encouragement, this would not have been possible.
When I first started out, I didn’t know much about running a business on my own. Luckily, I’ve had advice from mentors with more experience than me, which has undoubtedly helped me avoid major pitfalls.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I run a photography business focused primarily on wedding, engagement, and couple photography, with plans to potentially expand my specialties to commercial and editorial in the future. I also enjoy nature and portrait photography during my downtime, which adds a unique perspective to my work.
I’m proud to have exhibited my work internationally and to be recognized for capturing the essence of my subjects. I am also proud to say I have met celebrities that I loved during my childhood. It’s been an amazing journey.
I believe the most authentic photos come from people being themselves, and I strive to showcase their beauty in those moments, and make them feel comfortable and at ease during their sessions.
I approach photography with a mindset of continuous learning. Each session teaches me something new, which I believe sets me apart from others. I’m always eager to explore new techniques or ideas that can enhance my work. Additionally, I often craft my own props, adding a personal touch to my shoots.
I also enjoy creating fine art-styled shots, so I’m excited when clients want to get creative with their concepts!
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Of course, my family and friends bring me so much joy, and I love spending time on hobbies like writing, drawing, reading, and music.
But there’s truly nothing that compares to capturing the perfect shot and sharing it with others. Seeing the smiles and happiness that follow is an incredible feeling.
The only thing that tops that is watching my oldest child practice editing on sample photos and seeing the pride in her eyes. It’s an amazing feeling to watch that creative spark being passed on.
