Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Williams
Victoria, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my makeup journey in my junior year of high school. I grew up with a strict Christian grandfather who believed in natural beauty, and I was initially scared to approach my mom about my love for makeup. Surprisingly, she was very supportive, and her only request was that it look natural. Granted, we were in the middle of the trend of dramatic cut creases and harsh contour, so I understood her request.
In my freshman year of college, I had my first makeup client. A friend of mine was taking her graduation pictures and asked me to do her makeup. The look on her face when I gave her the mirror sparked something within me that made me rethink what I wanted my career to be.
In 2018, I started the cosmetology program at Paul Mitchell the School – Memphis. I wanted to obtain my license to become more marketable. Now, if I’m doing someone’s makeup and their hair needs a touch-up, I’m qualified to do both.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When I graduated from cosmetology school, it was in the middle of the pandemic. Naturally, my clientele declined since we were all wearing masks. During that time, many people also learned how to do makeup from social media. I used the opportunity to record myself doing makeup, post on social media, and build a platform. However, rebuilding my business from scratch has been a struggle. Thankfully, I have a few loyal clients who keep me encouraged during this slow period.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My company’s motto is “Enhancing the beauty that’s already there.” I specialize in making the skin look like skin. The clientele I attract want to look like themselves, just gracefully enhanced. I named my business “The Victoria Experience” because I want every person who sits in my chair to have a positive, memorable experience and to let go of whatever they’re feeling or going through. I play music, engage in conversations, or sometimes we sit in silence. Above all, I want my clients to feel pampered and special during their time with me.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most is how my clients leave my chair. I want them to leave feeling different—better. You never know what someone is going through, and sometimes a simple smile, a word of encouragement, uplifting music, or just a listening ear can change a person’s whole mood. I want my clients to feel uplifted and more confident than when they first sat down. That’s what matters most to me. Their makeup might be beautiful, but what matters even more is how they feel mentally and emotionally when they leave
