Hi Destinee, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up I always had a passion for being a hairstylist. When I was about 11 I got my first mannequin head, from that day forward I started going on YouTube looking for styles I could recreate on my mannequin. Over time as my technique started to progress my parents, close family, and friends started to see the progress and they started letting me practice on their head or even their children head. In the years of 2020-2022 I started taking my passion for hair serious after seeing that’s something I really love and enjoy doing. I had a small station in my room where I did hair, those years were also a little challenging for me as well because i didn’t know the proper ways to go about promoting my business to build my clientele, so that left me on some days wondering was this really for me but I kept faith in myself as the years went on. At the end of 2022 my dad invested in me a suite to do hair out of. Then I built an audience on social media and my clientele increased extremely. In the year of 2023 I spent my time investing in myself and becoming a better business woman allowing my mistakes to turn into growth. Now In the year 2024 I graduated high school and started working in a salon with consistent clientele.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Honestly, It has not been a smooth road for me simply because most of my clientele came from social media so if there’s a time I’m not being consistent at posting or just promoting myself my business would get a little slower then usual. Being consistent is also something I had to learn to be with being an entrepreneur as well.
We’ve been impressed with Secure Dee Crown, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My name is Destinee Caldwell. I started my brand Secure Dee Crown with the purpose to make both genders Male and Female feel even more beautiful inside their skin. I provide braids, twist, locs, retwists, kid styles and all! It’s truly a honor to have the privilege to secure others crown in a comfortable environment. The smile I put on the customers face at the end of the service is what means the most to me.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
The Covid-19 crisis definitely taught me that Jobs are temporary so having multiple incomes are important, and to cherish every moment and make everyday count.
