Today we’d like to introduce you to Mako Bayramyan
Hi Mako, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When I was a child, my mom would always watch “I Love Lucy” and “I Dream of Jeannie” reruns. I was fascinated at how women looked on the screen. The makeup, hair and fashion was very different from growing up in the 90s and early 2000s. I was in awe! Then one day when I was maybe 10 my mom gave me a vintage compact. It was gold and HEAVY. Nothing like her everyday makeup I would play with. I treasured that compact. Then when I became a teen and got heavily into makeup, I tried to find makeup that looked like that compact. It didn’t exist, it was all plastic. As I got older, I started going to antique shops and was really into Ebay. I finally found vintage makeup that I could buy and test. I haven’t stopped collecting. It’s what inspired me to start my own vintage inspired makeup line.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not so smooth, but adventurous for sure! Starting my own cosmetic line was a learn as you go process. I had many trial and errors before I was able to launch my Glamour Lipsticks. From switching cosmetic labs in the middle of formulation to having to delay launch due to Covid where ingredients just weren’t available. It took over 2 years for me to launch my first product. From packaging, formulation & website management it was a learning journey for sure!
As you know, we’re big fans of Vulox Vanity. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Vulox Vanity is a vintage inspired cosmetic line. From the packaging, shades & styles our lipsticks and lashes are inspired by the 20th century. Our products are vegan, clean & cruelty free!
Creating Vulox Vanity was my dream project!! Once I started sharing my vintage makeup collection on social media, I was so excited to eventually recreate beauty products that resembled the past. The timeless elegance, quality and craftsmanship has always been something I’ve strived to recreate for modern times. And I was able to do that with my first product, Glamour Lipsticks and then expand to Lashes!
Our Glamour Lipsticks are inspired by shades from the 1930s-1990s and our lashes are inspired by styles from the 1950s & 1960s.
What does success mean to you?
Everyone can have a completely different answer to this. But personally it’s being able to do what makes me happy! I was able to create my dream project, share it with everyone, launch it and see all the lovely things people have to say. That makes me so happy.
