Today we’d like to introduce you to Moriah
MORIAH, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
MORIAH is a multifaceted musician based in Memphis, TN, with a deep-rooted passion for both performance and education. A graduate with a Bachelor’s in Vocal Performance and a Master’s in Arts and Leadership, MORIAH has honed her craft since childhood, beginning with her first auditioned choir at Bellevue Baptist Church. With years of experience as a singer, worship leader, and music educator, she aspires to make a significant impact in the Memphis music scene.
In addition to teaching private lessons through her studio, Moriah Vox Studio, she has served as a professor at Visible Music College and has contributed to the STAX Music Academy Summer Program. As a versatile worship leader and music director, MORIAH lends her talents to several Memphis churches, including Hope Presbyterian Church, Christ Church, and Bellevue Baptist Church, among others.
Her work extends to session singing, where she collaborates with various artists in Memphis, and she is also a songwriter. 2025 will see the release of her original music, further showcasing her unique voice and musical vision. MORIAH’s blend of classical training, choral conducting, contemporary worship, and original artistry defines her as a dynamic force in the Memphis music community.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I’ve learned that the challenges along the way are what have shaped me the most. Going through college while honing my craft was demanding enough, but balancing my education with raising children, especially having two in college at the same time, made it even more intense. There were times when it felt impossible to keep up with everything, but the determination to finish strong kept me going, and I’m proud that I was able to graduate on time, even with all the responsibilities.
As an artist in today’s world, especially with the overwhelming presence of social media, it can be both exhilarating and daunting. While social media gives you exposure, it can also make it difficult to stand out, especially when you do so many different things. It’s taken me some time, but I’m coming to terms with the fact that my “thing” is that I don’t just have one. I conduct choirs, I work with both children’s and adult voices, I lead worship, I collaborate in different musical genres—there’s just a lot that I do. And the beauty of it is that I enjoy every part of it. Rather than trying to fit into a single mold, I’ve realized that my strength lies in embracing all of these roles and the diverse communities that come with them. I’m learning to lean into the fact that my “thing” is being multifaceted, and it’s a journey I’m excited to continue.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Kind of discussed previously, but I do a lot.
Over the past couple of years, I’ve had to step into a variety of musical roles, some of which have pushed me out of my comfort zone, and I’ve learned to embrace them in ways I hadn’t anticipated. I wouldn’t exactly say I’m a pianist, but I’ve gotten a lot of gigs on keys recently, which has been both challenging and rewarding. It’s pushed me to improve my skills, and I’m striving every day to get better. It’s a constant journey of growth, and if you’re interested in following that process, you can catch some of my progress on social media (@moriahvox).
Another area I’ve been stepping into more is Music Directing (MD-ing) in contemporary worship settings. I’ve always had a love for leading and guiding teams musically, but MD-ing in worship adds a whole new level of responsibility—organizing the flow, guiding musicians, and staying sensitive to the spiritual atmosphere. It’s been a rewarding challenge, and I’m continuing to learn the best ways to communicate and serve the musicians and congregation through music.
Beyond those roles, I’m also fortunate to work with choirs. I conduct choirs both in my own work and for some of my friends who run their own choirs. It’s such a joy to shape voices and bring out the best in a group, whether we’re working on a classical piece or something contemporary. It’s a different kind of satisfaction than solo performance—seeing a group come together and create beautiful sound as one.
Teaching voice is something I’ve been doing for years, and it remains one of my biggest passions. I have my own studio, Moriah Vox Studio, where I teach private lessons, and I’m constantly amazed at how much my students teach me as well. Whether it’s helping them unlock their vocal potential or coaching them through a tough performance, it’s so fulfilling to see them grow.
And then there’s my songwriting. It’s a space where I can truly express myself, and I’m in the process of recording and releasing my own original music in 2025. Writing allows me to connect with my emotions and experiences in a way that feels personal but also universal.
Worship leading has always been at the core of what I do, both in church settings and beyond. Whether I’m leading a small congregation or a large community, it’s about facilitating an encounter through music—helping people connect spiritually while using my voice and musicianship to create an atmosphere of reverence and joy.
Lastly, I manage a band called ARMADA, a party/event band. Being a band manager is a completely different side of the music world—keeping things organized, managing schedules, making sure the logistics of events run smoothly, and keeping the band members happy. It’s a lot of behind-the-scenes work, but it’s so rewarding to see an event come together and the audience have a great time.
At the end of the day, I’m grateful for the variety of work I get to do. Each role offers its own challenges and rewards, and I love that I’m able to continue growing in each one. It’s all part of the same mission for me: to use my music, whatever form it takes, to serve, inspire, and connect with people.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Here’s a response that’s friendly and clear, reflecting your openness and inviting support and collaboration:
I always say that one of the best ways to support an artist is through “free” actions that go a long way—like follows, likes, shares, and comments on social media. It honestly means more than people think! Following and engaging with my content not only helps boost my presence as an artist but also encourages me to keep creating and sharing. Sometimes making content can feel like a job in itself, so every bit of engagement gives me that extra motivation to keep going. You can find me on social media at @moriahvox!
Collaborations are always welcome, too! If you’re interested in working together or just connecting, feel free to reach out via my booking email: moriahvox.booking@gmail.com. I’m easy-going and enjoy connecting with all kinds of personalities, so whether it’s a musical project or a creative endeavor, I’m excited to collaborate.
I also regularly post about upcoming shows, so if you’re in the area, I’d love to see you come out and support live music—your presence at a show is always appreciated!
And of course, soon there will be original music to stream and some fun merch to support, so if that’s something you’re into, stay tuned!
