Today we’d like to introduce you to Eli Ostrow
Hi Eli, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Photography, for me, is so much more than just a business—it’s storytelling, memory-making, and a true form of art. Growing up, I always struggled with creativity, especially in visual arts. I can still remember moments as a kid when I would color outside the lines, get frustrated, and even rip my paper in half. I eventually accepted the idea that I just wasn’t a creative person.
That changed five years ago when someone handed me a camera. They told me, “The lines are already drawn—you just have to make the photo your own.” That simple perspective shift opened a door I never thought I could walk through.
My journey to where I am today has been built on practice—and I cannot stress that enough. I took one photography class in college, but it only covered the technical foundations of using a camera. The creative side? That was something I had to discover on my own.
The turning point came during a trip to NYC for my internship when I was asked to bring my camera. That trip led to me photographing Mayor Eric Adams at a gala. From that moment on, I knew I wanted to grow as a photographer. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of capturing moments with Huey Lewis, Priscilla Presley, city politicians, and many more.
But beyond the well-known names, what truly drives me is the simple act of capturing life. There’s something about seeing people live—the way the sun sets, or how a bird takes flight, or when a person experiences raw emotion—that makes me incredibly happy. Every time I take a picture, I get to freeze those moments in time, and in doing so, I feel like I’m truly living my purpose as a creative.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Overall, my journey has been a smooth one, but there have definitely been moments that threw me off course. One challenge that doesn’t get talked about enough is creative block. While every sunset is unique, there are only so many ways to capture it before it starts to feel repetitive.
There were times when I turned to Pinterest or Google Images for inspiration, and while that helped, the real challenge was transforming that inspiration into something uniquely my own. Pushing past that creative plateau forced me to experiment, see things differently, and trust my own artistic vision. In the end, those moments of struggle have helped shape me into a better, more intentional photographer.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
For me, photography is all about capturing life and creating memories. I love photographing people, events, animals, and landscapes—anything that tells a story.
I specialize in portraits, events, and lifestyle photography, but I also have a huge passion for nature and wildlife. There’s something special about catching a sunset at the perfect moment or capturing the way an animal moves—it reminds me why I love what I do.
I’ve had the chance to photograph people like Huey Lewis, Priscilla Presley, Mayor Eric Adams and so many others, but what I’m most proud of are the everyday moments—a real smile, a quiet moment, or a beautiful view.
What makes my work different is that I don’t force moments; I let them happen. I want my photos to feel real, like you’re right back in that moment.
At the end of the day, photography is my way of seeing and appreciating life. My goal is simple—to capture moments worth remembering.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is storytelling. I believe everyone has a story, and they deserve the chance to share it. Photography gives me a way to do that—capturing moments, emotions, and experiences that might otherwise be forgotten. Whether it’s a person, an event, or even a landscape, every photo tells a story, and that’s what makes photography so meaningful to me.
