Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeffro Howard
Hi Jeffro, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Harlan, KY and was raised by my mom and grandparents in the Appalachians.
I moved around a lot and I’d be happy to share any details that are pertinent to what you are looking for. I have a story of being on drugs, and now serve in the recovery community in Memphis and have also lead several local non-profits. Some people like this part of the story and others don’t find it fits a business context but I have no issue talking openly about it. Mainly oxy contin and xanax. Drug dealer turned pastor/real estate broker. lol
Primarily today, i am the owner and managing broker of Bluff City Realty Group . We have three businesses, a fully licensed construction company (Bluff City Exteriors) and we have a rental investment management and flip company (Bluff City Realty Management)
I got into real estate on accident. I was a seminary student and the president of seminary asked me to work for him part time so I could make a little extra money to support my pregnant wife who wanted to stay home with the baby. That turned into me, managing all his rentals and overseeing his flips and renovations. We went from 10 properties to almost 40 in the two years. I worked for him prior to getting my license.
We were at a property one day and he looked at me and said “have you ever thought about getting a real estate license?” – get out of my head and went home and told my wife what he said. Her words were “I think you should do it” – now I have my mentor, my best friends, and my wife all telling me to go for it. I had no choice, but to give it a chance or cower in fear.
Skip forward 13 years and now we have a staff of over 40, 20 licensed agents, and a personal management portfolio of over 30 properties.
As I said, I am happy to elaborate and give detail on any of this
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As I mentioned, the drug aspect of my early days would be a large part of this if you want to go that route
I also had a failed business opportunity in 2019 that we could talk about that really changed the way I lead and manage my team today. I obviously wouldn’t mention names, but bad leadership and a lack of accountability is the lesson here.
I learned how important and integrity is, servant, leadership, and community involvement. These are a lot of the things we focus on today.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Bluff City Realty?
I mentioned some details in a previous section. We are a full service real estate brokerage.
One thing we are known for more than flipping, selling, and renting houses is our community involvement. We donate around 25% of all BCR profits to local non-profits each year. We’ve worked with some amazing organizations. Happy to elaborate on that as well. I’m far more proud of this stat than our sales numbers.
I would like to talk about our buying/selling, renting, and managemnt for self-promotion if given the chance of course.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
obviously as a client, renter, or investor. We also have service projects and some community support events that we are always looking for people to be involved with.
We could always suggest that “any deal done through BCR will directly support a Memphis based non-profit” when talking about our 25% giving stat
