Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Goode
Hi Amy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began my publishing career in advertising sales for a couple of local Memphis publications. I was discussing my career path with my father as I was looking for guidance as to what my next move might be. He and I were both active in the health and fitness community in the mid-south and as we talked, realized there was a need we could fill with a niche publication and Memphis Health & Fitness Magazine was born!
With my father’s financial backing and editorial skills, and my significant background in advertising sales, we quickly got our new magazine off the ground in 1996. We soon became the go to local resource for runners, bikers and all varieties of fitness and health enthusiasts.
As the magazine grew and my father pursued retirement I was able to step up to the helm as publisher and continue to expand the editorial, social and market reach of the publication with expansion into new fitness modalities, nutrition, aesthetics and medical information.
Today I’m proud to boast a much expanded print and digital circulation in Memphis, Shelby County and North Mississippi.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As with any small business or entrepreneurial pursuit, there are inevitably setbacks along the way. Luckily, we’ve generally been successful in seeing these bumps as opportunities to brainstorm new paths to readership and engagement. One of our biggest struggles early on was teaching local businesses that whether they were specifically in the health and wellness category or not, it was smart to align with consumers who aspire to an active lifestyle. As time went on we were able to convince and partner with untold numbers of local leaders, experts and individual citizens in our work towards supporting Memphians in healthier day-to-day lives and engagement with the active community.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
It’s my passion to educate, inspire and make health and wellness information interesting, aspirational and easily accessible to anyone and everyone in the Mid-south community. One way we achieve these goals is by regularly sharing our readers’ health and fitness struggles, passions and journeys to success as they pursue better, healthier and more active lives which we hope will ultimately inspire their peers to do the same.
