Today we’d like to introduce you to Charmaine Tyrelle
Hi CharMaine, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in rural Bolivar, Tn.; just about an hour outside of Memphis. My musical history precedes me, as many members of my family sang and were a part of family choirs and their own entities. Growing up in church and loving music, I found myself particularly interested in music. Every year for Christmas, my grandfather would buy me a new keyboard, because by October/November, something would mysteriously happen to my “old’ one lol. Well, that coupled with choir ministry gave me my first taste of music.
Most southern musicians grow up in church, so as I journeyed through my school years, I decided to get in band, which opened many other opportunities for me. I started out playing trumpet in the seventh grade and quickly moved to many other instruments, such as: clarinet, flute, french horn, oboe, xylophone, etc. Through this tenure, I won numerous awards and achieved great heights in band and choral music. Music most definitely became my passion, and I was excited to be in my tribe.
Went on through high school and college, still participating in music via local, community and national choirs. I started writing music, after forming my own chorale called “Chosen Generation,” as I recording my first gospel single “Let’s Praise the Lord,” back in 2010, released in 2021-22.
As time has it, I was given the opportunity to perform for the 2021 Presidential Inauguration with Demi Lovato by a family member of a family member, you know, connects – smiles – but it changed the trajectory of what I thought that I could do.
From that point on, I started gearing myself up to write new music, journeying through a new lens and making what I love, which is music, work on my behalf.
I started singing at music festivals, taking gigs everywhere, so that people could know who I was. A lot of what you do in this field is social media, but most definitely “word of mouth,” and that has worked on my behalf. I’m so grateful for the many, many people who I’ve connected with that have given me the opportunity to shine bright!
I went on to record new music, land a few acting roles and continuing my journey of music! Moral of the story? TO BE CONTINUED:)
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
LISTEN, LIFE BE LIFING!!! All while I am on this journey, life is still happening. Being an independent artist is tough! You have to be self-motivated; you have to have the capacity of a booking manager, an entertainment lawyer, a choreographer, a graphic designer, a musical director, a financial officer, a stylist and visionary to make your dreams come true!
Having a social life and being over different organizations presented a lot of issues with bookings and dates that I wanted to take. I think some of my toughest battles, which are even sometimes a struggle now are just knowing who to connect with; who will make sure that the opportunity will present more opportunities and not be in a state of manipulation. The music game can get a little tricky, but you have to stay true to who you are.
Knowing when to rest and balance yourself truly is the ongoing struggle, so to be continue’d!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Well, I could be called Mr. Everything! I am a singer/songwriter, producer/musician, dancer, actor and everything else. I’d bet a dollar and say that I specialize in everything that I do. I am most certainly a perfectionist to heart. I allow myself the grace to make errors, but I’m very hard on self! I’m known mostly for my versatile singing range, and being able to play multiple instruments, such as: keys/organ, flute, trumpet, french horn, clarinet, oboe, drums. I’m very proud that from a young child, this has been one of my passions that I’ve carried throughout my entire life! It makes me proud to know that I am thriving and surviving off of my gifts/talents. It makes me proud that I left the teaching field and didn’t look back! I am grateful to have that under my belt, but my ultimate goal in life was to do what I love to do, and that’s to entertain, make people feel good with my art! That’s my proudest era!
I believe what sets me apart from the rest is how I take up space boldly. I’ve been on the roster with some heavy hitters that are way more known than I am, but because I’m in this space with you, this also let’s me know that I’m not short stoppin! Being able to capture the emotion of the art that I’m giving in so many different realms, whether it’s a big or small venue, even a church, a funeral, whatever the case may be, is what sets me apart! Tapping into every part of my being, giving you a true and complete show, knowing that I am going to leave it ALL on the floor, whether the room is intimate or mega, i’m giving you that CT energy, everytime!
And let me add that LOVERBOY ENERGY will be out this Summer!!! I cannot wait for you to hear my first RnB EP! STAY TUNED!!!!
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
You know, social media has taken storm in everyone’s lives, and I find a little piece of relief in so many different things. I don’t have a favorite podcast or book that I tune in to, but I allow life to send the messages via it social media, people or inspired thoughts. Oh, I can say that my partner is an AVID Abraham Hicks fan, so I’ve heard one or a thousand of her amazing speeches, so yes, her, as well as #HotRodCares, in the person of Rodriques Miller, who I believe has been featured here before, as well!!! His self-taught practices of meditation and life therapy has been a blessing in my own life. I’m more regulated than ever and evolving everyday!
