Today we’d like to introduce you to Mykenzie Mathis
MyKenzie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am a serial entrepreneur and business coach who began with photography in 2019. I have been a full time photographer for six years now. What started as a hobby capturing friends and family grew into the passionate business I run today. I’ve had the honor of coaching other photographers on their similar journey for the past few years now as well. While photography is what I am known for, I have grown and expanded as a business owner. Anyone who knows me, knows that I am passionate about connection and intentionality as this is the foundation for MyKenzie Alexis Photography. This desire for more connection with those I love and being more intentional in my day to day have brought me to my newest business venture – Intentional Crafts and Paperie.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For the most part I would say it has been pretty smooth for me. The Lord has really led me when it comes to my business and keeping Him close has helped me through any issues I may have run into. I would say that the hardest thing for me (and other photographers I have coached) is that sometimes it can feel like such a lonely road. Working from home can be very isolating at times and while I have made some AMAZING friends in this industry, I have found that “community over competition” is said to be said. This is actually what led me to coaching others – no gatekeeping and open community has been transformative for my business.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My motto is “Relationships first, photos second.”
I live for the emotion-filled, untamed, and wildly beautiful in between moments. Gimme real + raw over posed + stiff ANYDAY. I specialize in documentary style weddings that have a whimsical and filmy vibe to them. I also specialize in giving a dannggg & showing up as a friend, not just any ole vendor. I get to know my couples and by the end of it, we’re pretty much bffs. Because that’s why I’m in this. To serve clients with SO much more than just epic photos, but an elevated, luxury experience.
I’m all about the little moments. I thrive in timeless, intimate moments with a couple that cares more about each other than their day….but also couples who deeply appreciate aesthetics and long for romantic, timeless, feeling imagery that will make them want to cry with joy every time they glance at their photos. That’s where my creative spirit comes alive, and that’s where my clients get me at my absolute best, which is what they deserve.
While I showcase most of my couples work on my social media I am also SUPER passionate about capturing branding, boudoir and family memories. My favorite thing is to grow with my clients over the years and to execute any vision they may have when it comes to photography. Getting to know my clients on a personal level creates that comfortability and trust for everyone throughout our journey together.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
When looking for a mentor, you need to make sure of a few things:
They’re well established. Not by hundreds of thousands of followers, but within the community.
They’ve got your best interest at heart and show this with open communication & valuing your time.
They inspire you with their work and day to day living.
