Life & Work with Elizabeth Wiggs of Germantown, Tennessee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Wiggs

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started out as a producer and journalist in the Memphis area, but my interest in photography began years earlier. While in high school, I even had a darkroom, where I would spend hours on end developing photos and perfecting my skills. Photography was my source of artistic expression, but it became something more meaningful when I married my husband, whose daughter was four at the time. I pulled the camera out of storage, so that I could try to preserve some memories for the two of them.

Sixteen years ago, that hobby slowly became a career, and I feel fortunate to make a living doing something that I love so much. Photography allows me to document life’s most valuable moments, and leave families with something real to pass down for generations. My background as a journalist has bled over into my photography style. Whether on the sidelines of a sporting event or at a family gathering, my goal is always to capture your story.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have been blessed to have continued support throughout this process. I sincerely have the best clients possible. The biggest struggle for me has been the balancing act between family and business-owning. For years, I photographed weddings, but as my kids got older and involved in activities, I had to make the choice between photographing weddings, and occasionally missing out of their events and activities. Ultimately, I chose to give up that side of my business, so that I could be more involved in their weekend lives.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
What sets me apart as a photographer is my journalistic approach to storytelling. Having a background in journalism and production, I don’t just shoot—I aim to capture moments with context, integrity, and purpose. I seek out the raw feelings, unscripted interactions, and revealing details that would otherwise go unnoticed. Whether it’s the intensity of an athlete in performance or the silent communication among relatives, my aim is to retain the essence of the moment in a way that is true and timeless.

My journalistic training has allowed me to anticipate before it happens so that every photograph tells a story. Stiffly arranged or posed images are not what I aim to achieve.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was always really outgoing. I was loud, giggly, and probably a little bit quirky. I loved my friends, and loved making memories. We were always making videos, baking, and being silly. I have always loved reading, photography, and being outdoors.
