Today we’d like to introduce you to Deon C..
Hi Deon, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I had always had a passion for music throughout my formative and highschool years. For lack of better words I “ran from my calling.” I had always been rapping and a student of the game, but did not take it seriously until college, where I decided to pursue my passion. I started at Mississippi State University with a major in Computer Science. I had a true change of heart and decided I had to go all in. The next semester I switched schools and majors, coming home to the University of Memphis, pursuing a degree in Music Business. I took some time perfecting my craft and learning about the complexities of the music world. I then started my music journey professionally in 2020. Graduated from the University of Memphis the next year. Since then I have dropped countless singles, my EP “A Lens Through My Life” and my debut album, A.C.I.D. (Any Change Is Death).
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have been countless struggles throughout the way. I spent a lot of time doubting myself, my skill, and if this was the right path for me. Putting in countless hours and hoping for it all to pay off. I experience loss of family, friends, and more importantly myself. This all formed who I am today and the struggle of living in my truth is a battle I will be waging until I have no time left.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a rapper, but overall I am an artist. I specialize in lyrical, soulful, and motivational music that deals with a lot of the struggles that anyone can relate to. I am known for heartfelt lyrics, catchy hooks, and providing great performances on the local scene. What sets me apart is my ability to connect with people through my lyrics while also maintaining my own style and sound. I evoke a wide array of emotions through my own lens (no pun intended), with a refreshing homage to the true heart of not just hiphop, but music that fuels the soul.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I would love if you took a listen to my debut album A.C.I.D. (Any Change is Death). It aims to demonstrate the importance of change within life, and also acknowledging that with change comes the death of who you previously were. The project explores the triumphs, trials, and power in understanding that within that death, ones live can begin anew. I sought out to create a rap album that was true to my sound, but innovative in nature and believe there is a song for everyone on the project. Out everywhere now!
