Life & Work with Bogey Anderson of Memphis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bogey Anderson.

Hi Bogey, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started to get into photography during my senior year of high school when my friends would take pictures of me. I was always the one who asked to borrow the camera to take pics of them because I did not like being in front of the camera. Once I realized there was a whole space behind the camera, I ordered my first camera in 2018. I was able to afford it through a summer job at Service over Self, a nonprofit organization. Once I got my camera, I started to go around the city to take pictures of my co-workers at camp and, later, friends. My first setting for lifestyle shots was always at a mural or skatepark. That is how I got my Vibrant color identity. I would mix in established art with the subject, creating an energy around the subject. My first camera was a Cannon Rebel Xs, and I learned to shoot manually from a fellow friend at @sixomo in 2019, who taught me all the tricks to get started. I took that and ran with it, eventually going to underground fashion shows, concerts, parties, and art venues. I often would carry my camera everywhere I went, filming artists such as 6lonelyhearts and kaytjuan. My Fiance, Keila Lopez, accompanied me as my assistant when I first started to gain traction, and she would encourage me to go to these events and network. When I did not believe in my ability, she made sure to tell me how talented and blessed I was and that my gift would not go to waste. That’s when I began to take my photography more seriously and professionally. So, I picked up a photography job at My alma mater, Christain Brothers University, where I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Visual arts in May 2024. I eventually learned how to connect with people through photography and how to greet and talk to them before taking a picture. This completed my game, as I could conduct myself professionally and do what I love. As I continued this Journey, I went to shoot many big artists, away from the underground scene, such as Memphis’s own NLE Choppa, Ken Carson, Playboi Cart, Lil Boosie, Young Nudy, Pierre Bourne, and many more. I currently work with the city of Memphis for Mayor Paul Young’s Office of Youth Services as the Creative director and photographer. So, I currently take pictures and videos of the mayor, city-wide events, business partners, and many other organizations in the city. I create the content and run the social media. Through Handling social media, I learned that I could start my business venture apart from my main business, Bogey Studios. That Business is a Social Media Marketing Agency Called Vibvacious Media started by Kevin Araya and me, one of my closest friends and now business partners. Adding to that, I joined a mixed media Group called 4x that consist of me, Kevin Araya, Dariya Barnes, and Nate Herrington. Vibvacious media has shot for Cache 42, the mayor, Councilwomen and men, artists, and anything that has to do with the city of Memphis. 4x is more music and artist-focused as we just launched @4x_collective in February of 2025. I am currently posting everyday of 2025, so that is 365 posts. My goal is to reach a plethora of followers by the end of the year so follow me @bogey_studios, @vibvacious_media, and @4x_collective!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Some challenges I faced were affording camera equipment and learning what I needed to get better at perfecting my craft. Many times I was given a camera by someone who had no use for it anymore and I would use that free camera to make money for a better one. I eventually made the money and got a better camera that fits me and the new year. Also at some point I di not know my niche and so I was doing everything from Graphic Design to photography, to video, to making my music. I had to learn to narrow my focus on photography and video even though I have said skills. Youtube helped me realize some tips I was missing to improve my photos and videos so Youtube University and learning from watching and listening to others is how I improved and got more confident.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in Photography, and I am specifically known for my lifestyle photography and Concert Pictures. To the point where I got a gig to intern at The Shell as a photographer for their concert series. I am most proud of how much traction I have been gaining over the last year, getting recognized for my work, and reaching a way bigger audience than I ever have. I am so proud of the development that God put in me to become infatuated with photography. What sets me apart from others is my Faith in God and my drive, I can not ever give up on the vision God put on my mind. That vision was to show off his beautiful people and this beautiful world. To create joy in someone’s day make them the Star, like we are God’s Stars. He made us so carefully and beautifully, and that is what I capture. I capture the moment, the vibrancy in color aspect, mimicking joy, peace, and kindness. Motto: Bogey Studios hits record on your message. Clarifying your view with video, and photography through an amplified lens.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
The fact that I traveled the world young, doing mission trips in the Dominican Republic and twice to Belize. seen true beauty in those places, and I was also offered a free scholarship to a leadership academy in Prague, and I accepted! I got to see Europe and the world completely different from America. These places are where my eyes opened to color, joy, and faith.
