Exploring Life & Business with Kim Clover of Clover Counseling Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Clover.

Hi Kim, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I knew I wanted to help people and to be a counselor from a very early age. I was driven to become a Christian Counselor and in record time. I stayed focused and got out of school with my doctorate in 10 short years. I worked for two psychologists while I was in graduate school and starting counseling people at 20 years old. I branched out on my own in private practice in 1991. I started out sharing office space with a few other counselors, but eventually I took on the challenge, and opened my own office. I shared my office with one other clinician for many years, and eventually had another clinician who worked for me.

In 2017, both the office manager and other clinician quit on the same day. I was stressed about how to proceed. As I decided to replace the clinician, I liked three therapists that I interviewed. I hired all three and hence, Clover Counseling Services was founded. In 2020, my husband joined the practice as the business manager. At that time, we had 5 therapists and 2 office administrators. As the pandemic swept the nation, anxiety and fear was a part of all of our lives. The need for counseling was immense. We grew consistently based on need from 2020 to 2025, and I give my business manager a great part of the credit. With my vision and drive and his business acumen, we have grown from four practitioners to 23, and 12 office staff members. We have expanded to two locations. And,
the original three therapists are still with me!
I love our group! We have a committed and caring team of clinicians who provide quality care and a staff that provides excellent customer service.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not always been a smooth road. We have had some turnover in our office staff. And it is never easy to lose staff and replace them. COVID was a giant challenge, but it was also what made our business flourish. People were in need and I wanted to do whatever I could to help during that time. We learned how to provide Telehealth and were available to many who were anxious and depressed.

As you know, we’re big fans of Clover Counseling Services. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor/Mental Health Service Provider. We, as a group, offer individual, couples, family and group counseling for ages 4 to 84, and we provide medication management. We treat most any problem including, addictions, couples counseling, ADHD assessments, anxiety, depression or trauma. All of our therapists are talented and use many different treatment modalities like CBT, EMDR, DBT, and hypnotherapy.
I specialize in trauma, eating disorders, and relationships. I use hypnotherapy for healing the trauma.
I also work as a clinical supervisor to help some of the temporary licensed clinicians through the licensure process.

I make several presentations each year to share mental health information to the community as well as other professionals in the field.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I have often said “Life is life, just keep working the problem”! Being a business owner has taught me a lot! To be a good leader, you must lead by example and listen to your instincts. It is okay if everyone does not agree with you or necessarily like you. It is okay! I just have to stay humble and focused. My life has been abundantly blessed to say the least! I love what I do and look forward to counseling people for as long as I feel capable!
