Today we’d like to introduce you to Eliana Nunez.
Hi Eliana, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Photography is something I have always been so passionate about. As a kid, I would always ask my parents for a camera, and one day I was gifted a blue polaroid.
With this I would treasure my film. I would not shoot unless I had the perfect shot.
Then, I got to have a phone. I would use it to take photos of everything. I would beg my friends or family to get in front of the camera, I would take photos of skies, seas, books, and whatever called to me. I photographed the things that made me feel.
Even now, it is the same way. I always need to have my phone or camera on me. I have learned the importance of taking in moments, but what I love the most is being able to share the feeling I had in that moment with others, through a photograph.
At 16, I bought my first real professional camera. When I began taking photos on my camera I felt like I was finally seeing these words of mine come to life. My poetry was right in front of me. I could feel the words I could feel the emotion the photo brought.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Learning to use my camera didn’t come so easily, haha. It took me a few practice sessions. I’m still learning things now!
I started by practicing on my friends and am now taking photos of strangers!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a creative portraits & couple photographer!
I am most proud of how far I’ve come. I started by hoping to book just one session, and one year and a half later, I’m booking with clients months in advance! It’s such an amazing thing to think about. People see my things online and want to book with me!! Truly makes me so happy!!
What sets me apart from others is that in the end, I am a poet. My goal is telling stories with the poetry of light. There is so much to say, and my goal is storytelling within every session. I get to know the client, or couple I am working with and by the end, we have such a beautiful story to tell with stunning pictures.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
I think my most important lesson I have learned so far as a photographer is that not everyone will like your work. There is no need to please others with how your work looks, and it’s ok to experiment! I’m still not 100% with my style. There are sessions I sometimes do with friends to experiment with.
