Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristy Jarrett.
Hi Kristy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My Story – Dr. Kristy S. Jarrett
My Story — Dr. Kristy S. Jarrett
I’m Dr. Kristy S. Jarrett, a second-generation Hair Doctor. My journey started long before I ever touched a comb—it began with my mother’s testimony.
She was forced to learn how to care for her own hair as a child because no one wanted to do hers. Her hair was tightly curled and misunderstood. But once she learned how to care for it, it began to grow. Her jerry curl was always flawless, and people started asking her to do their hair. Eventually, she went to beauty school, worked third shift, and styled hair by day. She opened her own salon and worked five to six days a week—while raising a household, including me, the middle child of four.
I watched her do the impossible—with God’s help. I saw her heal crowns and change lives with her anointed hands. From a young age, I knew I was called to do the same. She taught me how to care for hair, and I soaked up every word. I always said: I didn’t choose hair—hair chose me. I’ll never forget knowing by the 10th grade that I was going to do hair. It was frowned upon, but I didn’t care. It was never a job—it was a calling.
At 17, I attended Dudley’s Beauty College in Chicago, where I was trained by industry legends and even styled hair behind the scenes for Bobby Jones Gospel. I studied theory, walked the stage, and knew then—this was more than beauty. This was purpose.
I come from a small town called Brownsville, TN—population under 6,000. I didn’t plan to return, but obedience led me back. I served under my mother’s leadership and learned directly from the best. People traveled from different states to see her restore hair from alopecia and damage. She turned down money if it meant compromising someone’s crown. That integrity shaped the professional I am today.
Even while based in Brownsville, clients drove from Memphis, Nashville, Mississippi, Missouri, Illinois, and Arkansas—before social media ever existed. I was always drawn to Memphis. It was the city where I knew I’d expand. It felt like alignment, not just ambition.
In my early days, I was known as the “Weave Queen”—all I needed was two packs and a vision. My styles were published in Black Hair, Jet, Sophisticate’s Black Hair, and more. I even traveled with Dudley Products, teaching stylists how to master relaxers and elegant styles.
I judged hair competitions, raised five children with my husband, and still made it to every cheer game, school event, and client appointment. I didn’t miss a beat.
Then one day, a woman had been praying for her hair to grow back. She started her hair journey and it was something I’ve never seen before. Her scalp was white, caked, and stringy. She was ready to come out of wigs—but needed a miracle. My mother reminded her of the gift God gave me. That day, I styled her hair to look like her real hair—no chemicals, no wigs, no weave. Her scalp healed. Her hair grew back.
That moment changed everything.it started me to prepare for today.
This was when The Lord start leading me to start perfecting my real hair skills. Ladies come to me because they just want to wear their hair and love their crown.
Since then, women from all walks of life have come to me—broken, discouraged, and ready for change. I don’t just grow hair—I help women heal.
I thank God for my mother who taught me the value of integrity, character, and excellence. That’s what anchored me when I launched Glamor ChiQ in 2020—not just as a brand, but a movement. A call for every Queen to reclaim her confidence and wear her crown with Godfidence.
A couple of years later, I launched my second location and I’m here in Memphis changing lives. Moved here not having no one on my books. Just a country girl trusting God.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Whew — where do I begin?
One of the hardest struggles I faced was walking away from something that was actually good—comfortable, familiar, and even successful. But deep down, I knew I was being called to something greater. Ending a chapter that still “worked” wasn’t easy. People didn’t understand. I questioned myself. But I realized that growth doesn’t always come from brokenness—sometimes it comes from choosing elevation over comfort. That was a painful but necessary part of my journey. I’m no longer where I started, and that separation made space for the woman, the specialist, and the mentor I’ve become today.
Still, I leaned on my faith. I reminded myself: I wasn’t just chosen to do hair—I was chosen to heal through it. I’ve carried the emotional weight of helping women who felt broken, women hiding behind wigs, silently battling hair loss, and praying for hope. I don’t take that lightly. I’ve been entrusted with their crowns—and that trust is sacred.
In a small town, standing for excellence can make you a target. I was bullied—not because I lacked skill, but because I refused to undervalue it. I wouldn’t compete by lowering my prices or compromising my standards. I chose quality over popularity. That decision made me stand out—and not always in the way people celebrated. I lost clients. I was talked about. But I stayed true to what I knew I was called to do.
Looking back, those losses were some of the most painful—but also the most powerful—parts of my journey. What I didn’t realize at the time was that those losses were actually making room. Room for clients who valued what I offered. Room for me to expand. Room for me to lead. Now, I use that experience to empower other stylists—to price with confidence, lead with integrity, and grow without guilt. I’m no longer where I started—but I carry those lessons with me every step of the way.
Every “no” became fuel. Every setback became a setup for the next level. And every woman I’ve helped reminds me: I’m walking in divine purpose.

Whether I’m restoring a woman’s hair or raising up the next generation, my work is rooted in faith, purpose, and excellence.
This isn’t just hair—this is healing.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Essential Qualities
I believe my essential qualities are obedience, faith, integrity, and love.
Obedience has carried me further than ambition ever could. I truly believe that when you obey, great things will follow—but it takes faith to obey when the path isn’t clear. Faith is what keeps me grounded and fueled, even when I can’t see what’s next.
Integrity is what sets me apart. It’s the reason I can be trusted with someone’s crown. I won’t compromise someone’s healing for popularity or profit—because character matters more than clout.
And above all, love. Love is the foundation of everything I do. It corrects fear—and fear cannot live where love is. When you love what you do, how you do it, and who you’re doing it for, your work becomes purpose-driven and powerful.
Love isn’t just how I serve—it’s why I serve.
