Daily Inspiration: Meet Lexx Coleman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lexx Coleman.

Hi Lexx, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m originally from East Memphis—Hickory Hill, to be exact. I went to school at UT-Chattanooga, where I studied business marketing, but funny enough, I actually started out as a nursing major. My dad always pushed me to pick a career that would always be in demand, like something in medicine, and while I understood that, deep down I knew that wasn’t for me. College hit way different than high school—it was tough—but I pushed through and ended up excelling.

After graduation, I moved to Atlanta, where everybody has a hustle and a side business. I took a lash course at first, but quickly realized lashing was way too time-consuming for me—I move slow, and I knew I needed something more flexible. That’s when I started selling strip lashes. I was booming, literally selling lashes out of my trunk. Then the pandemic hit. I lost my full-time job, and like a lot of people, I started thinking seriously about what I actually wanted to do.

Makeup had always been something I loved, but I wasn’t the girl doing everyone else’s makeup—I just knew how to beat my face. Around that same time, the George Floyd protests and everything happening in the world really shifted me. I wanted to be intentional with my dollars and started shopping Black-owned beauty. I remember going into Sephora and seeing maybe four Black or Brown-owned brands—and that moment stayed with me. That same day, I told my friend I wanted to start a makeup brand. I had no plan, no experience, just the drive.

I reached out to my lash vendor, and they actually helped guide me to a makeup vendor. I spent around $4,000 on inventory without even seeing a sample—just vibes and faith. I stayed up every night talking to vendors, designing my own logo, picking product colors, building my own website—everything. That’s how Dosage Cosmetics was born. The brand had a medical theme, inspired by my dad’s dream of me going into healthcare. I had lashes in pill bottles, eyeshadow palettes that looked like medical folders, pill-shaped chapsticks—it was creative, different, and super personal.

I launched on my mom’s birthday in the fall. Sales were okay at first, but what really took Dosage to the next level were pop-ups. I was doing events in Nashville, Chattanooga, Atlanta—still delivering products out the trunk of my car. I kept reinvesting, upgrading my packaging, building a better site, and slowly building a brand that people loved.

Now, I’m back in school getting my master’s in business, plotting how to level up even more. I’m currently focused on UGC and influencer marketing because I know the power of content. I’m still growing, still evolving, but everything I’ve built has come from hustle, heart, and figuring it out as I go.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some of the obstacles I’ve faced are the same ones every entrepreneur runs into—slow sales, no sales, days or even weeks of silence. And that hurts. It makes you question everything—your creativity, your skills, your whole purpose.

When I launched Dosage, I was all in. But I had just lost my job because of the pandemic. I ended up working retail for a year, and eventually got a corporate job too. For a while, I was working two jobs just to fund my dream. I was selling out at pop-ups, but even then, I was only making enough to break even. Whatever profit I had, I poured it right back into the business.

I wanted Dosage to grow so bad. It wasn’t just a business to me—it was personal, it was creative, it was mine. But it was exhausting trying to do everything alone while balancing life, work, and survival. That’s something people don’t talk about enough—the grind behind the cute branding and good packaging.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Right now, I’m a content creator and entrepreneur, and honestly, I wear a lot of hats. I got my start in the beauty space by launching my own makeup line, Dosage Cosmetics. I did everything myself—from branding to the website to staying up late talking to vendors. That really taught me how to hustle, how to market, and how to connect with people through product and story.

Now, I’m focused on content creation and UGC. I specialize in skincare, beauty, and lifestyle content that feels relatable and real. I’m not trying to be overly polished or sell a dream—I want people to see something and feel like, “Yeah, I trust her.” I think that’s what makes my content different. I don’t force anything. I care about the vibe, the message, and making sure it feels true to me.

What I’m most proud of is that I really built everything from nothing. No handouts, no investor money, just me figuring it out as I go. I’ve had highs, lows, burnout, slow sales—but I never quit. I kept going, even when it felt like nobody was watching. And now I’m in a space where I get to be creative and help brands show up in a more genuine way. I’m still growing, but I know I bring something fresh to the table.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
f there’s one thing I’d want people to take away from my journey, it’s this: there are no losses, only lessons. That’s my life motto. Things won’t always go how you planned—sales might slow down, people might doubt you, you might even doubt yourself—but if you keep going, keep learning, and stay true to your vision, you’ll always land on your feet.

Keep hustling. Stay curious. Find inspiration wherever you can. Seek out mentorship. Connect with people, build real relationships, and never be too proud to be a student. Accept feedback, even when it’s uncomfortable. That’s how you grow.

I’m still evolving, still building—and I’m okay with that. I don’t have it all figured out, but I know I’m on the right path. And if you’re reading this and trying to figure out your own next move, just know you’re not alone. Keep going.
