Hidden Gems: Meet Kana Greene of Kana Greene Design, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kana Greene.

Hi Kana, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Looking back, it’s no surprise I ended up in interior design. I grew up spending weekends at estate sales with my mom, falling in love with antiques and the charm of pieces that had a story to tell. At the same time, my dad was in real estate, flipping houses – so I also got to see the bones of a space, and how it could be transformed with the right vision.

Though design has always been a passion of mine, I initially followed a different path. I earned my undergraduate degree in Psychology, followed by a master’s degree – an education that gave me a deep understanding of how our environments shape the way we feel, live and connect. That perspective continues to influence the way I design homes today.

In 2022, I launched Kana Greene Design. Before that, I had the privilege of working alongside a wonderful designer who helped lay the foundation for my career and gave me the confidence to branch out on my own.

With my own business, I’ve leaned into what I love most- timeless design and homes with character. I have a soft spot for classic architecture-the kind of homes with original trim, creaky floors, and a little patina. My style is all about creating spaces that feel layered, lived-in, and collected over time.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a perfectly smooth road, but I’ve learned so much from the bumps along the way. Starting a business is exciting, but also overwhelming. There’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes in design work- from managing timelines and budgets to juggling trades and client expectations. Wearing all the hats was a big adjustment at first.

One of my biggest challenges was learning to trust myself. In the beginning, it’s easy to second guess everything-from your pricing to your design choices. I’ve had to grow through that and get comfortable making confident decisions, even when things feel a little uncertain. But even when things felt hard, I reminded myself why I started Kana Greene Design- because I truly love helping people create beautiful spaces. Every challenge has made me more grounded and more passionate about the work I get to do. I feel so lucky to do what I love, even on the hard days. It’s all part of the process.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Kana Greene Design is a full-service interior design studio serving Memphis and the surrounding areas, built on the belief that homes should feel timeless, layered and deeply personal. Our work is centered around creating spaces that feel collected, not decorated- spaces that reflect the people who live in them.

We specialize in blending classic architecture, vintage pieces, and thoughtful details to bring warmth, character, and authenticity to every project. Whether it’s preserving the charm of an old home or adding soul to a new build, our goal is always the same: to create homes that feel lived in, loved and enduring.

What sets us apart is our commitment to craftsmanship, meaningful design, and touch of patina of patina that only gets better with time. We believe every space deserves to tell a story, and were most proud of the way we help our clients bring those stories to life through quality materials, layered textures, hopefully some wallpaper, and personal touches that make each home one of a kind.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I love most about Memphis is its deep sense of history and character. From the beautiful old homes to the music, food, and culture, there’s something soulful and authentic about this city. I’m drawn to the neighborhoods where the past is still alive—in the architecture, the people, and the stories the city tells.

What I like least is seeing parts of that history and natural beauty slowly fade as new developments continue to grow. While growth is exciting and brings new opportunities, I do wish there were more focus on preserving the charm of existing neighborhoods and protecting the trees and green spaces that give this area so much of its character. I believe there is a way to balance progress with preservation, while honoring what makes this area so special.
