An Inspired Chat with Velinda Humphreys of Southeast

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Velinda Humphreys . Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Velinda, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is a normal day like for you right now?
A typical day for me starts early — I’m usually up by 6 a.m. I like to begin with a moment of stillness, so I check emails, post something inspiring on social media — usually a quote or something to uplift others — and then spend a little time in meditation. After that, I try to get in some form of exercise before preparing for my day at the salon.

Once I’m at work, I’m fully focused on serving my clients with care, especially those in senior living communities and those who may not otherwise have access to beauty services. When I get home, I try to unwind, reflect, and prepare myself mentally and spiritually for the next day. Every day is full — but it’s rooted in purpose.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Velinda Humphreys — I’m an author, entrepreneur, licensed hairstylist, new real estate professional, and the founder of Styles With a Smile, a salon management and mobile beauty service focused on serving the elderly and disabled in senior living communities. I’m also the heart behind LEADHER, a women’s empowerment movement designed to help women heal, grow, and lead boldly in their purpose.

What makes my work unique is that everything I do — whether it’s through beauty, books, business, or real estate — is grounded in service, impact, and inner peace. I’ve published a self-help book,I Am the Master to My Peace, with 4 others to follow, where I share personal stories and reflections to help others reclaim their voice and power.

I’ve recently stepped into the world of real estate, where I’m excited to help families find not just houses, but homes where they can build legacy and security. Whether I’m behind the chair, behind the pen, or walking a client through their next big chapter, my goal is the same: to serve with purpose and create spaces where people feel seen, safe, and empowered.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before the world tried to shape me, I was a curious, compassionate girl with a heart full of dreams and a deep desire to help others. I was soft but strong, intuitive, creative, and unafraid to imagine a life beyond limitations. I found joy in simple things, believed the best in people, and felt deeply connected to something greater than myself.

But over time, like many of us, I started dimming parts of who I was to fit into roles, expectations, and environments that didn’t always honor my spirit. It took some unlearning — and a lot of healing — to return to that original version of me. Today, I lead with that same heart again. She’s wiser now, but still rooted in purpose, still loving, and still unafraid to shine.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes — more than once. There were seasons when life felt so heavy, I questioned everything: my purpose, my strength, my path. I’ve had moments where I poured into others while feeling completely empty myself. I’ve battled with loss, disappointment, self-doubt, and silence from people I expected to show up for me.

But even in those lowest places, something inside me refused to completely let go. Sometimes it was my faith. Sometimes it was the memory of the little girl in me who still had dreams. And sometimes it was just the quiet voice reminding me, “You didn’t come this far to stop here.”

I’ve learned that the breaking point is often the birthing point — the moment something new and stronger begins to emerge. So yes, I almost gave up… but grace, growth, and grit wouldn’t let me

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely — but it’s the healed and growing version of me. What you see publicly is not a performance; it’s the woman I’ve fought to become. I show up with purpose, authenticity, and compassion because that’s truly who I am — not just online or in my businesses, but in my quiet moments too.

That being said, there are still layers of me that only a few get to see. I have soft spaces, private battles, and moments where I’m still working through things. But I believe in being real, not perfect. So what you see is me — fully human, fully present, and still evolving. The same heart that writes the books, serves the clients, and encourages women is the same heart that prays, cries, laughs, and keeps going.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m still — not just physically, but spiritually. Whether I’m sitting outside with a warm cup of tea, journaling my thoughts, or just breathing in silence after a long day, there’s something sacred about those quiet moments. That’s when I can hear myself clearly… when I’m not pouring into anyone else, just reconnecting with God, my purpose, and my own soul.

I also feel peace when I’m walking in alignment — doing the work I was created to do, helping others, and knowing I’m making a difference. Peace, for me, isn’t just a feeling — it’s a place I’ve had to fight to return to, protect, and now teach others how to find for themselves.
