Story & Lesson Highlights with Kendra Reed

Kendra Reed shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Kendra, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
Yes, I would hire me because I am passionate about any task set before me. I dedicate myself to completing work that highlights my strengths while consistently striving to improve. Most importantly, I work hard to ensure every interaction provides a meaningful and positive experience.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am LaKendra, photographer and CEO of Soulistic Shots Photography, LLC. I have been capturing the essence of special moments for almost 10 years. My brand is unique because it is an extension of me. The name Soulistic Shots comes from my line name, Soulistic 1, as I am a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated. My name is a reminder to always lead with passion and authenticity. I wanted my photography business to portray the same passion, authenticity, and connection that the name represents.
Soulistic Shots Photography is built on the idea that photos should not only document an event, but also tell a story and spark an emotion. I strive to make every client feel seen, valued, and confident in front of my lens. Currently, I’m focused on expanding my portfolio to include more brand and lifestyle photography, while staying true to my mission of capturing moments that feel timeless and unforgettable.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Bonds between people are often broken when communication fades, becomes unclear, or is rooted in misunderstanding. At the same time, honest, empathetic, and open communication has the power to restore trust and connection. In the end, how we speak and listen to one another determines the strength of our relationships.

When you were sad or scared as a child, what helped?
When I was sad or scared as a child, my family always reminded me to turn to prayer. They instilled in me that having a close relationship with God was the greatest source of comfort and strength I could rely on.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
No, the public version of me isn’t the real me. Photography requires me to step into a more extroverted role—interacting, engaging, and talking with people more than I naturally would. In reality, I’m an extreme introvert who takes pride in solitude, but my love for photography makes me willing to show a different side of myself.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m able to do what I love. Photography is something that I absolutely love because it allows me to be in my element, fully present and connected to the moment. Through my work, I can make others feel seen, valued, and uplifted, which in turn gives me the opportunity to bring out the best in them. That combination of creativity, purpose, and impact is where I find my greatest sense of peace.
