We recently had the chance to connect with Gena Heelz and have shared our conversation below.
Gena, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Surrounding myself with loved ones, like my mother and friends, has brought me joy, as we uplift and support each other through life’s ups and downs.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Gena Heelz, a content creator and producer at Life In Entertainment. We provide media coverage and TV commercial placement services. I’m seeking a media contact to explore potential collaboration opportunities, with the ultimate goal of securing a TV distribution deal with networks like OWN, BET, or ION, allowing us to produce diverse shows under the Life In Entertainment umbrella.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
When I was a little girl as far as I can remember, my granddaddy which I called him “daddy” use to say to me, “Gena, your daddy George loves you!” He’d me look straight in my eyes and say “Gena, you’re a diamond in the rough and dont you forget that.”
I didn’t understand it at the time and I use to get mad because I was like, “why does everything in my life have to be rough!” But as I mature and as an entrepreneur as well as a community counselor. I’m beginning to realize the concept of what he would always say to me.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Gena, at this moment, I want you to know that you’re not alone and you’re loved beyond measure. Love yourself fiercely, believe in your incredible potential, finish school, seize every audition opportunity, and own every moment to showcase your brilliance confidently. This challenging phase as an adolescent will soon pass, and when you enter adulthood, never settle for anything less than love, respect, and positivity. You are deserving of it all. I LOVE YOU.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
Supporting community development and celebrating the accomplishments of Black men and women, while encouraging children to defy negative environmental and societal stereotypes.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
That you have to have confidence in yourself, visions and goals when all odds are against you and at your lowest point when choosing to stop to pay bills or work tirelessly on a dead end job, PERSEVERE towards your dreams and never stop trusting in God and God’s timing.
