Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Morgan Houston of Ridgeway Business Center

We recently had the chance to connect with Morgan Houston and have shared our conversation below.

Morgan, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
I’m most proud of building systems that no one sees… the structures that hold both my home and my business together. My husband shows up for our family every day in the workforce, and because of that foundation, I’ve been able to step into entrepreneurship and focus on creating wealth in a different way.

Behind the scenes, I’ve built systems that make life flow… whether that’s routines for my children, financial organization for my household, or bookkeeping processes that keep businesses aligned and tax-ready. These aren’t flashy things people can always see, but they benefit everyone they touch. To me, true success is measured in the order, clarity, and peace that strong systems create.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Morgan Houston, and I’m the founder of Bluff City Bookkeeping, a virtual firm built on systems, discipline, and service. After retiring from the U.S. Air Force as a medic, I transitioned into entrepreneurship with the goal of creating wealth for my family while continuing to serve others in their businesses.

What makes my brand unique is that it’s rooted in both structure and compassion, I understand the overwhelm that comes with finances, and I’ve built a business that brings clarity and alignment through numbers. Today, I’m focused on growing Bluff City Bookkeeping into a trusted partner for business owners and CPAs, while also showing other women… especially stay at home moms that you can build freedom and stability without sacrificing family.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Wow… sigh. Before the world told me who I had to be, I was just a girl who saw everything in its purest form. I believed people were as good and as kind as I tried to be, and I thought life was meant to be simple and full of light. I moved through the world with that innocence, assuming others carried the same purity in their intentions. Over time, life showed me otherwise, but I’ve held on to that core belief in goodness… it’s what shapes how I love, how I serve, and how I show up in both my family and my business.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Because of “trauma” there were many times I almost gave up. My mental health struggles were constant, and they ultimately ended my military career. Even after serving, those same struggles followed me into the professional workforce and made it almost impossible to stay. It pushed me to a breaking point where I realized if I was ever going to make money for myself and still protect my well-being, I had to create my own path.

It got so bad that I had to do something as drastic as TMS therapy for treatment resistant depression… and that decision saved me. It gave me the clarity and strength to step fully into entrepreneurship. Now, instead of being crushed by my struggles, I’ve turned them into the reason I build strict systems for myself, for my family, and for my clients. What almost broke me became the foundation for the business I’m creating today.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What truths are so foundational in your life that you rarely articulate them?
Discipline and Love can co-exist!

and

Structure creates freedom!

People often see discipline as harsh and love as soft, but for me, they go hand in hand. My military background taught me structure and accountability, while my husband and children taught me compassion and grace.

When my world has felt the most chaotic, it’s always been structure, routines, discipline, and systems that gave me peace and clarity… And when I pair that structure with love, it becomes a way of living that guides everything: how I parent, how I show up in my marriage, and how I build my business. Systems and accountability aren’t restrictive to me… they’re my love language, because they create peace, order, and freedom for the people I care about. That truth underpins every season of my life.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
Absolutely, I’m tap dancing to work every day now because I’ve built a business and a life around what I love. For me, it’s not just about the work itself but the way I’ve designed it to fit who I am and what my family needs. My mornings start slow with coffee and movement before I move into intentional time blocks, some for deep focus and others for checking in so I can stay present at home.

Entrepreneurship has given me the gift of creating rhythms I actually enjoy, and that joy carries into the way I serve my clients. It feels good to know I don’t have to choose between meaningful work and meaningful living, I get to have both.
