Meet Ra’id of Berclair/Midtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ra’id .

Ra’id

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started my journey in music when I was 3. I’ve always been a drummer LOL. I Loved music class growing up. Listened to everyone from Earth Wind & Fire to The Carpenters to Backstreet Boys (and beyond) as a kid. By High School I began playing seriously (both in school
and outside of school). I was a member of a 1st place regional winning band “The Delta Collective” in 2011. (YouTube it)
I learned how to produce and write my own songs by college. Garageband was 1st than my true love; LogicPro. I grew as a writer/producer and eventually drummed for 15 local bands (across genre btw).
Now, after taking some firends’ advice, Ive written and released my 1st solo album “Moonray”.
This is also a move to get more of my material out and show off my pen-game a little LOL.
Btw, the 2 singles from the album are “Last Call” & “Lifestyle”. Avaliable everywhere. Hope you like R&B

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Tbh, it could have been smoother. There have been a few times when there could’ve been greater sucess and greater achievment, but for reasons beyond my control they didn’t pan out. My only real regret is not starting my “writer phase” earlier in life. Also, I just had to grow and learn a little bit more. It’s always good to look back at past work and say “My how Ive grown and I can do better now”…

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a drummer-turned-songwriter-turned-“beatsmith”-turned singer? LOL! I prize myself for being multi-talented. I’m perhaps most known for my drumming.
I’ve been playing on a set (mine and others) for 20 years now (my God!)
The thing that sets me apart would be the synthesis of all of my gifts.
Not every drummer knows how to write and compose music and not every songwriter
knows how to play instruments; let alone perform their own work (or know how to package their
art or know how to do artwork). I’m also a pretty good dancer ngl.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
1. Know thyself 2. PATIENCE
3. Apologize to no one for your art.
4. Know that your “voice” matters.

Honorable mention: “You’ll never know if you don’t go; You’ll never shine if you don’t grow” (or whatever SmashMouth said….)
