Daniel Genders shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Daniel, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What is a normal day like for you right now?
I get up, I look on my website Daucers.com and Vinted to see what products are sold. I pack them ready to be shipped. Then I find out what products need topping up in my booths around town. After shipping and topping up my booths I go on my website to update it and write a blog about collectables.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello, my name is Daniel Genders and I sell collectables on my website Daucers.com and Vinted.
Daucers is a marketplace that allows vendors to sell anything collectable in the US and UK.
I am originally from the UK and love collectables. I combined the two and built Daucers which I want to be a global brand.
The aim is also to support small businesses that sell collectables such as antique shops around the world by showcasing their products, story and businesses through blogs.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
My ex mother in law taught me most about work. She owns a restaurant in Memphis. She taught me everything about hard work and business. Whatever she did turned to gold.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes. I gave up on many business ideas simply because they didn’t inspire me. I owned an online dropshipping business selling cute things from China. It worked for a while but my mind wasn’t in it, it wasn’t me. I evolved and kept searching for something I enjoy which is where Daucers came from. I love everything about it but I do have a trouble of getting my ideas to paper sometimes simply because I have too many.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes and no. I come alive when talking and learning about antiques or anything to do with my business. I do believe most people wear a mask to fit in. My wife sees my true self.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
With my wife, building our business and outside in nature.
