Life & Work with Marshall Boswell of Bartlett

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marshall Boswell.

Hi Marshall, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I came from a middle class family just south of Chicago. My father worked for General Motors in South Chicago and was a UAW member his whole career. My dad was a strong believer in the union and taught us kids to be also. I can’t remember a time my dads loyalty ever wavered for his union, so when I grew up I got a union job. My first union job was with a Johnson and Johnson Company that was union, and worked there for 22 years until they shut it down in 2000. I became a union steward not long after hiring on at 19 yrs old then ran for Executive Vice President and won at age of 24. After JnJ shutdown I was hired by Bellsouth in Memphis Tn so I sold everything and moved 500 miles and started all over again. I signed up to be a union member with CWA Local 3806 from the first day. I became a steward first under Mike Bennard when he became president then a VP. In 2017 I ran for president and took office in 2018, and have been the president ever since. In my time in office this local has successfully survived 2 strikes with AT&T , organized the Shelby County Sheriffs Office 911 dispatchers , many Mou’s negotiations with the City of Memphis. I owe these successes to having a strong executive board and more to having the strongest union members that support their local. The members are the backbone and strength of this local and all are my brother and sisters. Solidarity

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Struggles are 2 strikes , getting the local strong financially and running like it should, and now dealing with City of Memphis

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Facility tech with AT&T repairing damages to the telephone lines, proud of where the local is today, known for always having multiple projects going on, nothing sets me apart from others just a working man trying to maneuver through life but with a strong opinion on basic rights for my members and all working men and women

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
To be humble , patient , be honest , listen , compassionate , encouraging , stand up for what is right
