Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Mitchell.
Hi Robert , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am from Canton, OH. I am a graduate of the University of Kansas. I came to Memphis in 2008 to manage a restaurant for a friend. I bought the restaurant from him in 2011. Covid caused me to open Mitchell’s Breakfast Burritos in Oct 2020 because the space I was using as a catering business the business died. I had to re-invent my business. Thae original locations for MBB is West Memphis AR. it’s been open for 5 years. In May of 2025, the owners of the Rumba Room on Main Street asked if I would be interested in opening up a 2cd location by sharing their space, I researched it and agreed, I began operation on Sept 2, 2025 as Mitchell’s at the Rumba. I am on a slow but steady growth pattern but excited about the potential.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not smooth at all. I had to utilize 2 PPP loans and an EIDL loan from the SBA to stay afloat. Covid was very turbulent time for most American business except Big Business. If I had not received the federal aid I would have went bankrupt. There have been times where I was unable to pay my self and I still pay myself sparingly after 5 years because I am looking a long term. I want a legacy for my grandchildren. I am building that legacy thru MBB.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Mitchell’s Eateries, LLC operates Mitchell’s Breakfast Burritos and Mitchell’s at the Rumba. Our focus is breakfast and specifically breakfast burritos. I created all the recipe’s and name them after my maternal predecessors. My mother, Gailene, is the oldest of 10 siblings, The most popular product I sell also happens to be named after my mother. it is called the Gailene’s Meat Lovin Burrito. % other breakfast burritos represent my aunts and four wraps represent my uncles. So when customers call the burritos by name it keeps the memories of my loved ones alive.
Beyond that, I make my own seasoning, my own signature salsa, and my own sriracha ranch sauce. Those thing make Mitchell’s unique with the taste that can’t be duplicated.
We operate at 106 Thompson Ave in West Memphis, AR. 870.629.5005 and 303 S Main St. Memphis, TN 901.707.7897
Our hours in West Memphis are 6a 2p Mon – Sat and in Memphis 6a – 2p Tues – Sat.
What matters most to you? Why?
Creating a legacy for my family. Existence, since slavery, has not been kind to my family financially and I want to build something lasting of which We all can all be proud.
