Hi Alexandra , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I grew up in Romania, where I was an ordinary kid—perhaps a little above average at school—and I have many fond memories from my childhood. However, everything changed when my parents divorced. That period left me feeling lost and helpless, and music became my refuge. Listening to Elvis Presley not only helped me escape reality but also sparked a deep fascination with his life and career. This passion ignited a dream that has stayed with me for over 30 years: to one day visit Graceland.
Moving to the United States was never part of my original plan, but life had other ideas. My skills as a barber opened doors for me, and I believe a greater path was laid out for me. When I first arrived, I worked for 18 months in a large chain salon. I was nervous about whether clients would appreciate my style and haircuts, but that experience gave me valuable insight and confidence.
After that, I transitioned to working in a traditional barbershop, hoping it would be the right environment for me to thrive. However, I soon realized that I didn’t quite fit into their world—I needed to create my own. So, I took a leap of faith and rented a suite, slowly building my reputation and client base, day by day. After two and a half years of hard work and perseverance, I achieved a major milestone: opening my own barbershop.
Now, I am focused on building a team of barbers who share my values—consistency, dedication, and professionalism. With over 20 years of experience in barbering, I’ve learned the importance of patience and continuous growth. My journey is far from over, and I remain committed to learning, improving, and helping others look and feel their best.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road hasn’t always been smooth. Back in my home country, I faced many struggles—I was just another barber trying to find my place and identity in the profession. It was difficult to see a clear path forward or to stand out.
However, moving to the USA changed everything for me. Here, my skills truly began to flourish, and I found new opportunities that allowed me to build my own version of the American dream. The journey has been steady—progressing slowly but surely—and I am grateful for every step along the way.
I’m still growing, both personally and professionally. My focus is on serving my community and building meaningful relationships, rather than seeking fame. That sense of connection and giving back is what motivates me every day.
We’ve been impressed with Alex’S Barbering , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I don’t see myself as being in competition with anyone. I am a self-taught barber, and my journey has been shaped by dedication and continuous learning. One of the things that sets me apart is my commitment to building strong relationships with my clients—I always strive to provide a welcoming and reliable experience. Consistency and punctuality are very important to me, so I make sure to honor every appointment on time.
My approach to barbering emphasizes a natural look for men’s haircuts and beards, enhancing each client’s individual style. I’m passionate about staying up-to-date with both classic and modern trends, and I enjoy exploring new styles together with my clients. Whether it’s a timeless cut or something more imaginative, I’m always eager to learn and grow alongside those who sit in my chair.
What does success mean to you?
For me, success is defined by the smiles on my clients’ faces as they leave my barber chair. Knowing that I’ve helped lift their spirits with something as simple as a haircut brings me real happiness. I feel grateful to be able to give back to others what I believe has been given to me. Sharing my experience and knowledge with other barbers is also very important to me—I hope to inspire and help others grow, always striving to make something beautiful even better.
