Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Joshua Farmer of Memphis

We recently had the chance to connect with Joshua Farmer and have shared our conversation below.

Joshua, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: Have you stood up for someone when it cost you something?
Yes in the film industry I have spoke out about unfair treatment in my city and it might have cause me not to work with a couple people but I wouldn’t change it at all. I believe in standing up for what’s right even if I don’t get any recognition for it. I believe in doing something genuine from the heart and fighting for upcoming actors in this independent film world is something I will continue to do.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Joshua Farmer, an actor based out of Memphis, Tennessee. My work is rooted in drama, action, and emotionally driven storytelling, and I’m steadily building a name for myself through independent films, viral short-form content, and larger projects now in development.

Beyond acting, my journey includes overcoming a felony conviction—a chapter that pushed me to learn the law for myself and become an advocate for the youth in my community. I use my voice, my story, and my platform to help young people avoid the same legal battles I faced, showing them that accountability, knowledge, and persistence can change their future.

What makes my brand unique is the authenticity behind it: every role I take and every project I create comes from real life experience, real growth, and a real desire to impact people. Right now, I’m focused on expanding my acting career while continuing to use my story as a blueprint for others who need guidance, hope, or a second chance.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
Elementary, I can remember a teacher telling me Joshua with your mind , charisma , and your positive attitude you would will be able to move mountains long as you never doubt yourself & continue to believe in yourself. That stuck with me.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering will teach you if you have the fight or flight mentality . Success can handicap you if you never fail or suffered from something that makes you go harder than ever. The downfalls are as important as the success that we all chase. You need to know how it feels to fall down, it will make you respect what your doing it life so much more.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
I would say thinking that what they say is law. The mind works in a way we just don’t totally understand. So I would say to listen to how others think and it will help you navigate life better.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
Respect and dignity
