Today we’d like to introduce you to Meg Ross.
Hi Meg, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Memphis by Meg started as a lifelong passion for decorating, turned into few projects for friends and charities, and now I have a business that’s been growing ever since.
Growing up in Dallas, there was always something fun to be seen especially around the holidays! The goal was “bigger and better” and I loved watching how everyone would go overboard. Texas was where I fell in love with the glitz and glam and everything BIG.
Since leaving Dallas, I have lived in Georgia, Mississippi, and now Tennessee. Each place has added a layer of warmth and tradition to my style. Living in the South and Mid-South deepened my love for the classic touches – magnolias, timeless greenery, and welcoming elegance.
That combination of bold and classic has really shaped my approach. I love blending refined tradition with a little sparkle and personality – finding a balance between statement-making and timelessness.
When my daughter was born prematurely in October of 2017 and I found myself at home without my baby for a month while she stayed in the NICU. Between trips to the hospital, I found myself with a lot of time on my hands and a need for a distraction. The first thing I did when I was able to was put up my Christmas tree. It brought me so much peace and comfort in that hard time. That moment really stuck with me and reminded me how much joy a decorated space can bring. As my kids got older I found myself drawn back to that feeling and wanted to share with others, and that’s really where Memphis by Meg began.
Prior to moving to Memphis I was in the financial world as a full-time working mom in Atlanta. I resigned when my husband got his dream job here and we moved in February of 2020. Moving to a new town with a traveling husband, two kids under 2, a big job change for myself, and for the world to shut down really shook up our routine. I found myself reconnecting with that creative part of myself and I realized how much I wanted to turn my creativity into something meaningful.
I launched Memphis by Meg in 2023 as a home styling and seasonal decorating business. I create custom, high-end decorating designs that reflect my clients’ style and makes their home or business space stand out.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road as been bumpy but fun and I have grown a lot with my business. A favorite motto of mine is ‘if it doesn’t challenge you it doesn’t change you.’ Finding a balance between work and home/mom life and also being an individual requires a constant check in with myself and family and often I need to pivot to find the right alignment. Being able to create and use my creativity to bring light to this world is extremely fulfilling.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m known for my holiday displays, both residential and commercial. These last two years there’s been a big interest in our custom, oversized bows for Christmas, Valentine’s day, and even the 4th of July!
We offer a variety of services for events and seasons, including front porch styling, storefront designs, interior tree decorating, custom garlands and wreath design, holiday mantles, and more.
I personally design and source all of the items for our projects, mixing my the Dallas dazzle from my roots with Southern Charm to create timeless style with seasonal elegance. That combination of bold and classic has really shaped my approach. I love blending refined tradition with a little sparkle and personality – finding a balance between statement-making and timelessness.
How do you think about happiness?
My happiness first and foremost comes from my family and loved ones. My children motivate me more than anything. I have three kids: Caroline (8), Barrett (6), and Hudson (4). I want to be an example of resilience, creativity, and how important it is to never stop challenging yourself. Seeing their faces light up when I drive them by an installation, decorate our own home, or hearing their ideas for what I should do next is priceless to me.
Last year my daughter would take her friends out front and show off our oversized red bow and say, “can you believe my mom made that?” I put up the Christmas tree in October for another project and my boys have been my biggest fans. They love to plug it in and tell their friends what their “crazy mom” already has up but, “isn’t it so cool?” Actually as I’m saying this I’m realizing I need to record these moments for when the compliments become fewer in the teenage years, hah!! There really is magic in this business and I’m so lucky to be a part of it.
I also love creating works of art for my clients, and knowing they get to enjoy and bring some happiness into this world.
For my residential clients: These decorations are the backdrop of your families holiday parties and intimate gatherings, a few will even be a core memory for your kids’ and grandkids’ lives, something I hope they’ll look back on with nostalgia and appreciation. It’s such an honor to be invited into someone’s home to create something so intimate and special for your family.
For commercial and retail I have the freedom to go over the top in the larger spaces and I love the unlimited creativity with decorative store fronts. I know these designs will be seen and enjoyed by so many customers, clients, workers, and children throughout the season. I decorated the FedExFamilyHouse lobby for Christmas 2025 and seeing the families enjoy the decorations will forever warm my heart.
