Today we’d like to introduce you to Walesha Yates.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey with photography began in 2020, almost by accident. I initially bought a camera with the simple goal of taking more photos of myself—just something fun and personal. But something unexpected happened. The more I used the camera, the more I realized I genuinely loved being behind it, especially when I was photographing other people.
What started as a casual hobby quickly grew into a real passion. There was something incredibly rewarding about capturing the best version of someone, seeing their face light up when they saw themselves through my lens. It became more than just taking pictures—it was about helping people feel seen, confident, and beautiful.
Eventually, what began as a creative outlet turned into a business. Now, photography is not only something I love, but something I get to share with others in a meaningful way. It’s been an amazing journey, and I’m so excited to keep growing and creating moments that matter. My true purpose in photography is to help people see themselves the way God sees them — loved, worthy, beautiful, and full of purpose.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This road hasn’t been easy, but it has been rewarding! Understanding lighting, settings, editing software, and gear doesn’t come overnight. I had to teach myself a lot and make plenty of mistakes before things started to click. However, it was well worth it!
At first, I felt pressure to do what everyone else was doing. It took time to develop a style that felt authentic to me—and to realize that not every shoot or trend needed to define my work.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As a photographer, I specialize in branding and portrait photography, with a focus on couples, families, and personal/business brand imagery. My goal is to create meaningful, high-quality visuals that reflect authenticity, connection, and confidence—whether for your business or your personal memories.
One of the things that sets me apart as a photographer is my sense of humor—I love creating a relaxed, fun environment where my clients can be themselves. I keep the energy light and the laughter flowing, which helps capture genuine smiles and natural moments.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Shoutout to YouTube University—where I’ve picked up so many of the skills I use today! Lol! I’m always looking for smarter, faster ways to edit and elevate my work. Learning never stops, and I honestly love the process.
