Check Out Katheryn McLendon’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katheryn McLendon.

Hi Katheryn, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
After providing clinical services over 15 years, I started a group counseling practice with a couple of close collegues out of Germantown, Tennessee. I continued to be blessed with amazing clinicans who desired a team workplace environment, and it continued to grow over the next 3 years until we expanded to a larger location in and a second office located across the state line in Olive Branch, Mississippi. Our experienced counselors offer trauma informed therapy approaches spanning the ages of pre-school through adulthood.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have learned that starting and growing a practice is much like that of the healing process. It has its ups and downs all along the way rather than being a straight line towards growth. This has certainly taught me a great deal about strength admist adversity and the power of a resilient spirit. Some of our challenges included outgrowing our existing office spaces and locating properties large enough to assist our clients as we continued to expand. The downturn in the economy resulted in higher insurance deductibles and job loss placing a financial strain on a number of people seeking much needed services. To offset this we offered a sliding scale for self pay services and partnered with Care Credit to provide individuals with financial resources. Hope Evergreen LLC has partnered with several grant based programs such as Youth Connect and Ollie’s Branch to expand our community outreach in the Mid-South as well. Our Mississippi location became an approved Medicaid facility and we partnered with Marshall County schools to offer school based counseling services in Byhalia. Our organization has a heart for the entire Mid-South community.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have been a Licensed Clincial Social Worker in both Mississippi and Tennessee for 20 years. During this time, I have served in a variety of roles including inpatient psychiatric care, residential treatment, and outpatient counseling. Prior to starting my own practice, I worked as a Clinical Director of an intensive outpatient program in the Mid-South area. I am most known for my work as an EMDR Certified therapist and by background in Play Therapy. I love working with individuals using the creative arts and sand tray in addition to traditional talk therapy. Additionally, I have a therapy dog who participates in counseling sessions with clients offering emotional support. My clients often joke with me about how they really come to see Ginny, our dog, and I’m just a bonus. Having a theraputic animal has greatly helped many of my clients in the healing process.

As a leader, my team based approach and strengths perspective sets me apart from others in the field. I strive to encourage and train my collegues to build upon their own assests developing them into even stronger counselors who provide excellence in clinical care. I truly care about each of my team members like they were my own family. Providing the best clinical counseling experience for individuals and families is the top priority for all of my staff at Hope Evergreen. I’m also known for my long standing history as a Clinical Supervisor for other social workers advancing in their career. I now focus on providing EMDR consultation to professionals seeking certification in use of this trauma protocol.
