Meet Charles Cole of Lavergne

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charles Cole.

Hi Charles, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I think my journey started in collage at Middle Tennessee State University. I pursued a Bachelors in Fine Art and from then on always had a creative journey. Earlier on I painted and created items for art auctions. Then moved to making props for scenario paintball games. In 2010 I returned to painting and started creating digital images. In 2022 I moved to writing and self-publishing short story fantasy books and comics.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been smooth. It has had its highs and lows. From being the titled piece in an auction for charity to items ending up in publications for Paintball. Then lows such as receiving little interest from my pieces being shown.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a landscape painter but after a divorce in 2011 I allowed my work to express feelings. I like to draw and paint when it comes to using art materials. I don’t limit myself to paint or pen. I also like to paint digitally on my computer with a Wacom tablet and pen. I don’t mind telling stories with some of my work. One can see inspiration from graphic novels in the work. This constant dialogue with an active imagination has led me to want to write and also present ideas in a comic form.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
To create something that I look forward to showing and sharing with others. To have a close group of people that look forward to seeing my work. To share with the viewer the experience of the piece and to see that it affected them in some way. Of course, one would always want fame and fortune, but even with that, if the work is not appreciated all of that would be empty.
