Rising Stars: Meet Ryan Lindsey of Portland Tennessee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Lindsey.

Ryan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
When I was a kid, music surrounded me. My dad’s family was always doing something with music. My grandfather owned a studio in Georgia that I never got to see. My dad, Mike Lindsey, worked in radio as a show host for a long time. Music just runs in my veins and I’m proud to say I’ve kept it alive. I met Jak Fiddler when I was in high school and got signed to his label Outlaw One. Not long after that signing, he wanted me to produce his album, Darkness. During that process was where I found that I wanted to be a producer. So I came up with a name, “Spark Studio.” Now, Jak is my engineer and I am the owner. I make music of my own but I really love the production process so much more.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was not always a smooth road. I knew I had a purpose when it came to music but finding it wasn’t easy. I really fought myself on whether I was good enough to actually release something I had worked on. I came up with the name “spark studio” while my dad was still alive and once he passed, it became so much harder to do anything. But I kept pushing. When Darkness won album of the year, that’s when I knew I was good enough and if my dad had been there to see it, he would’ve lost his mind! But, I know what I’m supposed to do now. Produce and help people through music.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a producer first, artist second. I take music that someone wants to bring to life and just make it happen. I specialize in country and metal more than anything else but I’m constantly learning how to do more than just that. I’m mainly known for being Jak Fiddlers producer since we won album of the year bronze at ISSA which is definitely my most proud achievement thus far. I would say what separates our studio from the others is the fact that we don’t gate keep music. Music can save lives and it saved mine. Spark Studio was built on that belief that it can save people and if a song needs to be heard, we want to make it happen.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define success by my outlook on life. I have a very strong personal life with the family I’ve built and I would say that is my greatest success. When it comes to my professional life, I don’t think I’ve made it yet. I always want to be growing and push to the top. I want to make the studio my full time job and once it is, it’ll be my second greatest success.
