Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcus J Taylor.
Marcus J, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started Sports Sanitizers LLC to give the scholars athletes of the Memphis Shelby County Schools district an opportunity to play football for the 2020-2021 school year. The question was ” How can we keep the scholars safe for sports?”, and I tried to answer the call. But something happened after I got official in the paperwork; I received a phone call about my view on the reality of playing football in the city during COVID-19. As we were conversing, I told them what I was ready to do for the MCSC district to increase the opportunity of scholars having a football season. They asked me would I be available to start servicing locations soon? I replied “yes” and the rest was history. While I was servicing multiple locations, I was asked if I was available to service a location with janitorial work. Again, I answered “yes”. I had several locations during the pandemic to which Sports Sanitizers LLC provided janitorial services, and I received a phone from a vendor who was about to start providing Janitorial services to the MSCS district. I was contracted as a sub-vendor, and I haven’t looked back since. I went from one location to 10 locations in a two-month period. God hasn’t failed me, and HE’S been faithful. It has been the mentorship of AA, JD, JB, VT, and TB who has blessed me along the way. I’ve been blessed to have business in MS, TN, and SC. With opportunities to grow even larger. Having a MBE, SBE, and other certifications allowed me in the room, but God has allowed me to get a seat at the table.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of my biggest struggles was not understanding that your personal credit it tied to your business credit. I have struggled with being able to solidify funds, but God always comes through. Another struggle I’ve had is trusting people because there are some real snakes/predators in the business world. 8 Ball & MJG has a bar in one of their songs that says “there first contract was their worst contract” Besides that I’ve been blessed.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
The thing that sets us apart is that I make sure the name Sports Sanitizers LLC means something. I also have a gentleman by the name of Zeno Williams who is known for training the best floor technicians in the state. I invest in the tools necessary to provide the best service agreed upon contractually. We are available to correct any issues, those we created and those of other companies. Customer service is the number one priority. And it is known.
What are your plans for the future?
Sports Sanitizers LLC is looking to expand and diversify. We are looking to expand our fiscal portfolio and continue to save lives in this city of Memphis.
