Community Highlights: Meet Laurén Laurino of Mountain Mobile Massage Events and Education

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laurén Laurino.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve worn many hats and have been able to emulsify the gems of my experiences into a successful business model; meaning throwing all the emoji poop at the wall and paying attention to what sticks! Looking back on all the hats I’ve worn, I can see how they all cumulated into what I’ve now created known as “Mountain Mobile Massage, Events and Education.”

I was always drawn to the ‘Holistic Healing Arts’, although I initially subscribed to the ‘you get a job with a steady paycheck and health benefits and ride it out until retirement’ school of thought. In my initial career as a State Government Compliance Officer, I found respite and stress relief in implementing monthly massage and quarterly spa getaways into my self care regimen. Because I’m the type of detail oriented person who likes to figure out how everything works, in 2004 I started going to massage school part time while working full time. I figured ‘hey why not’ since I was always the little kid at family gatherings everyone said gave a good shoulder massage anyway.

After becoming vested in my pension, I resigned in good standing in 2013 to pursue the Holistic Healing Arts full time. I founded the 1st Holistic Chamber of Commerce in the State of NJ, volunteered in Event Productions at the NY Open Center and manifested the first IMDb listed Holistic Lifestyle show on public access television. The show took me to approximately two dozen countries showcasing the origins of massage and bodywork, herbal remedies and indigenous approaches to healing. The intention was to showcase integrative and alternative modalties for viewer awareness and to make them less apprehensive to try.

Thru my Holistic Health Advocacy, I was fortunate to receive many awards and accolades such as the American Naturopathic Higher Achievement Award 2x, a CA state Senate award from Senator Joel Anderson, a nomination for Dr Oz Local Health Heros and 4 appearances on his ‘$1 Fastest Health Fixes’ segment, plus an invitation to the White House by President Obama in 2015 for the Precision Medical Initiative to discuss food label transparency just to name a few.

Shortly after I gave birth to my son in a pool in my living room surrounded by my birthing team made up of Doula’s, a Midwife and Placenta Encapsulation specialist. My last episode aired in 2018 and I moved across the country consulting in the Spa industry on a two year contract. As that was winding down, I started receiving more offers to travel including abroad again emceeing health conferences, conscious film and music festivals while interviewing pioneers in the Integrative Health World as my sobriquet “America’s Holistic Sweetheart”.

In the meantime, my parents retired to TN and my son was two years old. I decided to move to TN to be closer to family as a single mom for their support with my son before he became school aged and thank God I did! I was literally on a plane back from a health conference in Florianopolis, Brazil the day they made it mandatory to start to quarantine for two weeks after traveling abroad in 2020. At that point the therapeutic touch industry went out the window but I stayed afloat in the health consulting space. Once things began to lift I observed a starvation for hands on healing modalities coupled with the unique dynamic of the area of TN I was now living in. I could only describe it as ‘The Hamptons to NYC’ being smack in the Middle of a triangle equal distance to major cities such as Chattanooga, Nashville and Huntsville, AL near Tims Ford Lake and the University of the South in Sewanee, TN. Here you need to plan a monthly pilgrimage to the wholesale club, there’s no car service at your fingertips and you are certainly not ordering the cuisine of your choice to be delivered at 10pm when you have a late night snack craving! Many people have second homes here that they use for the weekend or vacation rentals, or they work from home or are retired. I saw a need for a luxury concierge providing onsite / in-home / in-rental elevated massage and Spa services. That’s how Mountain Mobile Massage was born in 2022 and has been expanding ever since. We are always open for collaboration with STR / Venue owners and provide supplemental income and mentorship opportunities for providers and the aspiring.

Our education platform which was launched the beginning of 2025 is both NCBTMB, ISSA and FL accredited. It and I are less than a dozen continuing education providers listed on the official State website. My intention with the platform is accelerating the gap for newer massages therapists to learn what it can take 20 years in the field to hone. We’ve also been implementing Holistic Fitness regimens including Yoga in schools throughout the State to improve students response and adaptation to stress as well as improve athletes posture, gait, agility and swing- not to mention providing teacher appreciation chair massage too! In 2025 I was appointed as the new Co-Director for the TN Massage Championships and am looking forward to the next convention that will be held in Smoky Mountains this upcoming Spring.

My next attainable goal is to launch a podcast called ‘Holistic Talk Radio’ and my big audacious goal is to host a day time television talk show or travel channel show focusing on ‘Holistic America’ showcasing the melting pot of integrative modalities and unique outdoor hospitality amenities at our fingertips here in TN and the United States.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I initially discovered massage and its various modalities going through an integrative rehabilitation process after injuring my knee at the age of 14 as a fit 98lb freshman in Highschool. I was an active athlete playing soccer, cheerleading and dancing at the time and was the 4th woman in the US to have a meniscus transplant by the Giants Football Team’s XFL Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. Andrew S. Levy. Throughout the integrative rehabilitation process, I experienced learning how to walk again with support of hydrostatic pressure and anti gravity, meaning on a treadmill in a pool as well as physical therapy which included a lot of resistance training, hot cold therapy and weights with a Physical Therapist as well as Sports massage facilitated by a Massage Therapist. Due to the atrophy, and water retention from medications from this experience, I gained significant weight and by the age of 16 was a 225lb Junior in Highschool. Now I pay that experience and my professional expertise forward by facilitating ‘Aquatic Massage Bodywork’ for clients in need of water based therapy and am on payroll for a couple of NFL Football players- so grateful!

Once my mobility and fitness increased and I was able to discontinue the various medications that helped my body to not reject the transplant and so forth, the water weight came right off. Because this happened so quickly, my skin didn’t have time to adjust or fully retain elasticity. Besides now being in a ‘skin body bag’ as I referred to it with drooping skin everywhere, I also had to be mindful of walking heel – toe – heel – toe on even, solid ground and wasn’t able to walk on sand for 4 years while the cells they injected to fill the meniscus grew to hold it fully into place. The weight displacement by not walking on flat ground could have thrown off the healing process and this was so disheartening growing up in NJ not far from the Jersey Shore but also took a toll on my self esteem.

About 10 years went by and at the age of 27 I decided to have a full body, cosmetic reconstructive surgery to remove all the extra skin by a visionary artist of a plastic surgeon, Dr Scott A. Spiro, MD, FACS. Upon awakening I already felt lighter with reclaimed self esteem. The challenge that I faced at this point was my visible scars and circulation. I found a Massage Therapist who facilitated ‘cross fiber friction’ with vitamin e oil to help flatten, moisturize and lighten the scars plus ‘manual lymphatic drainage’ for circulation and lymph. After my initial session was the first time I noticed my armpits beginning to perspire or sweat again; which was a good indication my body was starting to detox and heal.

It also took some counseling to fully address the mind part in the Holistic ‘mind-body-spirit connection’ to begin feeling grounded and fully embodied again.
