Rising Stars: Meet Tina Williams of Memphis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tina Williams.

Tina, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Beyond The Fabric is a Black woman-owned embroidery business specializing in custom, high-quality apparel and accessories for schools, businesses, organizations, and individuals. We transform everyday garments into meaningful, professional, and culturally relevant pieces through tailored embroidery, branded merchandise, and limited-edition collections.
What started as a hobby in my college dorm room—driven by my love for sewing and creating—quickly grew into something more when I recognized a real demand for personalized, high-quality embroidered items in my community. People wanted pieces that felt unique and intentional, and I saw an opportunity to meet that need.
What sets Beyond The Fabric apart is our ability to merge craftsmanship with storytelling. We don’t just create products—we create pieces that reflect identity, culture, and purpose, while still delivering the professional quality that organizations and businesses expect. From custom client work to limited-edition collections like our Black History and Valentine’s drops, everything we produce is designed to connect and resonate.
At the end of the day, we’re more than an embroidery business—we’re a brand rooted in excellence, creativity, and community, where every piece tells a story.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. Growing up hard of hearing and wearing hearing aids since birth, I faced obstacles and moments where people doubted what I could accomplish. Those experiences shaped me and fueled my determination to succeed and to show others—especially those who may feel limited by challenges—that they can still pursue their dreams.
As an entrepreneur, there were also the typical challenges of building a business from the ground up—figuring things out along the way, building a client base, and staying consistent even when growth felt slow. But what kept me going was my passion for creating and the support from my community.
What excites me most is that Beyond The Fabric grew organically. I didn’t start with a big plan—I simply followed what I loved. Over time, that passion connected me with people who valued personalized craftsmanship and meaningful design.
Looking back, it’s rewarding to see how something that started in a college dorm room has grown into a business that serves so many. It’s a reminder that the journey may not be easy, but it can still be purposeful and impactful.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At Beyond The Fabric, I specialize in custom, high-quality embroidery for individuals, schools, businesses, and organizations. I’m known for creating pieces that go beyond simple customization—every design is intentional, polished, and meaningful. Whether it’s branded apparel for a business, spirit wear for a school, or a personalized item for an individual, my goal is to bring each client’s vision to life through detailed craftsmanship.
One thing that sets Beyond The Fabric apart is operating in an underrepresented space. As a Black woman-owned embroidery business, I intentionally merge quality with culture and storytelling. I don’t just create embroidered items—I create pieces that reflect identity, purpose, and community while still meeting professional and commercial standards.
What I’m most proud of is building a brand that started from a simple passion and has grown into something that serves a wide range of clients. Being able to provide meaningful, customized work while also representing and inspiring others in this space is what makes the journey so rewarding.
