Daily Inspiration: Meet Nick Sammons

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Sammons.

Hi Nick, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I never thought I would be an entrepreneur. I was planning to become a physical therapist. Like any other kid, I was told to get good grades, go to college (BS of Edu – UTK), and pick a career that would earn you a good living. After being sat on a long wait list for PT school, I decided to come home and get married. My wife, Rebekah and I, have been married now for 8 years. It was the right decision. As a high schooler (grad 2011 – Collierville High), I worked at a wrought iron door and fence company in Collierville (2015-2018). So naturally, I went back to what was comfortable. After a few years, I earned a job at a local bath remodeling company and was quickly promoted to production manager (2018-2020). When Covid hit, that’s when things got uncomfortable. I was furloughed from my job, my wife was pregnant with our son (now 6), and I did not have a way to generate income. I was reliant on someone else who’s hands were tied by the government. At that time, I decided that I did not want to rely on anyone else for a paycheck. I was raised to be a hard worker and I knew I could work hard, show my value, and earn a living. So with the last $2,000 in our bank account and my mother-in-laws 2000 Ford Expedition, I started TruVine Home Improvements (2021). It was a way to earn money and do what I was good at. TruVine is based on John 15:1-8. During my time working for other construction companies, I learned some things. I learned that leadership is not dominance and control. I learned that an aggressive sales process hurts more than it helps. I learned that most contractors simply could not honor their word. And I learned that most clients were looking for a better solution. I built TruVine to be the opposite of these things. I would be a leader that raises people up. That coaches them and builds them into the best versions of themselves. Not only for the company but for their families. I built a sales process that was transparent and open, based on trust and not “sign the dotted line”. And I built a construction process that brings peace instead of chaos. A peaceful renovation experience, that is what we provide. We rebranded to TruVine Renovations in 2023 once we received our General Contractors license (#78888) and we focused in on bathrooms, kitchens, and home additions. We are celebrating 5 years in business today (4/16/2026), and we continue to build and grow our people, our mission, and our standards. We will be opening a second location in St Petersburg, FL this year. One of our current employees will be a partner there.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. When I was working for other contractors, I learned how to lead, manage, and sell. But business is a completely different skill set to learn. In year one, I worked harder, longer, and for less money than I ever had. Most days I worked from 6:00am to 7-8pm at night. I didn’t understand my numbers and I thought if I charged enough to cover myself, then I would eventually be all right. Thankfully, I found a group of mentors in the contracting world who helped me learn business skills. I have hired without knowing how to build a role or a proper pay scale. I built systems that did not work and caused clients to receive poor experiences. I have taken $20,000+ losses on projects that were misquoted. I have returned $30,000+ to clients who did not receive what they were hoping for. Each time a mistake is made, however, I learn from it. We get better. I’ve always based our company off doing the right thing. Our core values Purity, Respect, Integrity, Commitment, and Excellence (PRICE), pave the way for how we treat people. We pay the price for our clients peace of mind. We have the sleepless nights, we deal with the problems, we handle the uncomfortable, so that our client can have a great experience.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a general contracting company that builds kitchens, bathrooms, and home additions. But what we specialize in, is a peaceful renovation experience. All contractors say the same thing: we guarantee our work, we’ve been in business X amount of years, and we communicate. There are hundreds if not thousands of contractors in the Memphis area. None of them talk about a peaceful renovation experience. Most people who call us have had or heard of some sort of negative contractor experience. Someone’s money was stolen, someone didn’t do what they said they would do, they did not do a good job, or weren’t licensed or never called them back. We are built on transparency. We put ballpark pricing on our websites, we provide video content of our projects so you know what it is like to work with us, we give you a written proposal with a contract, a construction schedule, and a payment schedule so nothing is uncertain. We schedule a pre-job walkthrough with our team, so that our team is on the same page as the client and our estimator. We offer design to help make selections. We do daily logs with photos to communicate with you when you’re not there. We do a professional post construction clean so that your space is ready to use and not ready to pick up. We call you at 3 weeks, 3 months, and 3 days before your warranty expires to make sure everything is at it should be.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I love about Memphis and the surrounding communities are the people. I have met so many great people doing what I do. We are not as different or divided as the world says we are. The people who live here have a passion for making our communities a better place and I get to see it each day in each individual person we serve.
One of the hardest parts about Memphis is the gap between potential and opportunity. There is not enough access to education about other opportunities outside of college. Without the mentorship and encouragement I had from friends and family, I would not be where I am today. Memphis is full of entrepreneurs that just need to hear that it is a worthwhile investment. I have worked with HopeWorks for two years now, in and out of prison, to teach entrepreneurship to those who dream of something more than what they have. Eventually, I would like to get in to the school system and teach our youth of another path as well.
