Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Taylor.
Hi Kimberly, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
How I got started is I was working at a factory for 5 yrs because me and my husband had 2 small children, we were trying to take care of and provide for them. One Sunday after church service one of my church members ask me if I would like to work in her office as her receptionist and I agreed because I definitely wanted a career change. i started as her receptionist and by year 2 I was running her office so I decided I could become my own agent. I opened a Farmers Insurance agency and ran it successfully for nine and a half yrs. A State Farm opportunity opened up, and I interviewed for it and got the Agency. After 3yrs of success I opened my second location becoming the first African American woman to open a second Agency in my area and the first African American Woman to open an Agency in Southaven Mississippi.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has had its challenges for my second location being the first African American woman in Southaven, MS. I have encountered lots of racism and comments such as ” I remember a time when there were no black people in MS.” However, my team and I have continued to persevere and didn’t let that stop us from being successful.

What you should know about my Agency is that I love what I do. I love making a difference in our community and customers lives. I treat them as not another number but as our family We believe in giving back. I based my business off my strong belief in the Lord and the simple saying of treat others how you would like to be treated. When I lay my head down at night, I have peace knowing that I have ran my business ethically and done what’s best for my customers who become just like family to us. My business specializes in life insurance, but we do all insurance auto, home, renters, boat you name it we cover it. What sets us apart is we treat our customers like family; we are honest in all we do even if it is an answer that the customer might not like. Honesty is always the best policy. I am most proud brand wise is to be with the top Company in insurance and able represent women letting them know they can run a successful business and still have an amazing family life as well. Work life balance is definitely possible. I want the readers to know that I genuinely care and believe in the services my agency offers.

What matters most to me is my faith in the Lord and making a difference in people lives I encounter from all walks of life. Being able to show up for families and let them know that they don’t have to worry about being financially devastated because I have provided what they needed gives me fulfillment and a drive to show up every day and give my very best to everyone I encounter.
