Today we’d like to introduce you to Jada Chatman.
Hi Jada, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Before wigs, cheering was my thing. When I was 14 years old, I developed a blood disorder and was told I wouldn’t be able to cheer anymore. I was told that it could be dangerous if I continued to cheer. I searched for another thing to call mine that would fit me. I remember having my first wig installed at 17, and it felt so odd/different. I then watched tutorials on youtube and became very fascinated with the wig world. My feet hit the ground shortly after, and I haven’t stopped.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Smooth ?! Whew, no, I wish that it was smooth. Truthfully, things still aren’t perfect yet. I’m sort of indecisive when it comes down to certain things. I had a hard time choosing a name that would fit me as a person & stick! I couldn’t even make up my mind about what services I wanted to include. I still have a lot to do and change, but I plan on going under reconstruction soon. I have big things up my sleeve soon to come Wayda’s Way. I hope everyone sticks around to see it as well.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Wigs are my specialty. Of course, I’m not the best, at least not just yet, but I continue to work on my craft to improve it. I don’t know everything there is to know about wigs, and I’m still learning, but that’s okay. If I had to pick a favorite part of customizing a wig unit, it’d be coloring & styling. The coloring portion is time-consuming and tedious but fun to me. My journey has just started. I’m proud of myself for finally showing the world my crafts and talents because there was a point where I was nervous about even starting up a wig business. I eventually realized that everybody starts from somewhere and that it would not be easy whether I liked it.
So, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you before we go? How can they support you?
I don’t take clients at the moment, but if anyone wants their unit customized, they can DM my business account on Instagram @waydaswayy. They can even get their units customized to show people my talents. People can support me by sharing my business with others; spreading the word does much more than people think.
