Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Petty.
Hi Nick, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I play in the band The Happy started in 2012, the band was started after a period I went through of drug abuse, and playing live felt like a great way to escape stress and problems and he has constantly been helping since. We have put out 2 and a half albums since and music videos on YouTube and Spotify.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are many challenges like not getting paid well at first, obviously, a lot of dysfunction in the industry cause it’s always at bars, constantly figuring out dates at the beginning that align with work or family, and being away from loved ones on the road. Putting together all differences to remember you on the same team is absolutely huge.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a singer-guitarist and songwriter, I specifically write songs perform them and do a little promo, booking some side stuff. I’m most proud of the people who like The Happys like Jack Endino, Eric Andre, and Eric Wilson, and the people who have been saved by the music mentally at times or it led them to be inspired.
I would say to be honest just my weird personality and mental health challenges led to be a good motivated singer and artist, and it’s always been like that just my distorted way of how I see the world jives with the music industry.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was a class clown, and also shy but kind of crazy, constantly getting in trouble for distracting the class that type of thing. I liked creeks, skateboarding, filming movies, and writing and music. As an ADD kid, I ran into a few problems but nothing absolutely catastrophic.
