Today we’d like to introduce you to Rage Harajuku.
Hi Rage, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My father was a drummer in a band so I was exposed to the music scene pretty early. He would even sneak me into clubs with him for his gigs, while my mother and granny were apart of the music/club scene. My parents and grandmother listened to nearly all genres and that inspired me from a young age. I was also a Tomboy with influences from cartoons, wrestling, anime, music etc. Along with that, my trials and tribulations along this molded me into the person I am today. Without the character development from pain and life itself i wouldn’t be as passionate about music, I wouldn’t be Rage.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’d like to say having to grow from a non resourceful environment with no foundation was my main struggle, because first you need to believe in yourself. Not having proper structure and the right people around you can alter you creative process and mental state, because people will take that light within you and try to dim it because they don’t believe in themselves.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a versatile artist, I specialize in pop, hip hop and lo-fi music. I’m known for my alternative looks and layered vocals on tracks. I am most proud of my ability to persevere through anything thrown at me on this journey to stardom. I’d like to say my authenticity and sense of style sets me apart from most people . In that I pay homage to those whom I look up to. I want to go global and be that well respected vanguard fashionista that can spit till her heart’s content. I get inspired by things that made me happy as a child, and I try to recreate that with my music. I am a walking Muriel for my body is a blank canvas made for expression.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I can play the drums, I learned to play by ear from watching my dad at a young age. I love to paint and draw, and ‘m obsessed with clothing and fashion.
