Today we’d like to introduce you to Songwriter and Music Producer Robert L Jamison.
Hi Songwriter and Music Producer Robert L, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am a proud native of Memphis TN and grew up in the heart of Mid-Town in a low income housing community called Lamar Terrace. I got started working in the music industry by creating a brand called 5 Stars Music Group. Then afterwards in the early 90s I begin to focus on mastering my craft and building a professional relationship with my good friend Deljuan Calvin aka (Del) one of the lead singer of the Legendary Recording Group from Stax Records “The Temprees” then I established a online and offline presence.
I also networked with other musicians and professionals artists, namely. Chilly Bill Rankin and Frank Phillips both are lead singers for the Legendary group The Mad Lads from Stax Records founded by the late John Gary Williams and by singing in our male chorus at Magnolia First Baptist Church and attending local shows and online communities to find opportunities and collaborations. By that time I had Created a portfolio of my work and gain experience by association, working with some great colleagues on the west coast in Los Angeles CA then in 2013 I started managing artists and producing my own gigs and booking other Legendary Recording Artists, namely Grammy Nominated Andre Ray Former Lead Singer of L.T.D., Chilly Bill Rankin of the Mad Lads, The Delfonics Experience featuring Norman Carter, Klymaxx featuring Orginal Guitarist Cheryl Cooley, The Legendary Tempress, The Bar-kays. I had an opportunity to work with the Queen of R&B Aretha Franklin Music Director H.B. Burnum the late (Mary Wilson) of The Supreme, Billy Vera, Freda Payne, Chilly Willie, Woody Woody Band, and The Soul Train Cruise Concert Producer Tony Cornelius the son of the Soul Train Host Don Cornelius.
By working closely with my good friends Titus Ray Smith and Christina Mirasol Smith founders of The KGV Band we built a robust collaboration a family relationship that gave me an opportunity to build my brand and create a clear set of goals for my music career and promote KGV as my house band and feature them as one of my faithful bandleaders.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There were one obstacles that caused a setback for me and that was in 2020 when the Corona Virus and shutdown the entire country. During that time I lost a lot of money and had to cancel numerous concerts including The Temprees 50th year anniversary tour.
It was a very disappointing situation because I worked with professional people and other Legendary Recording Artist and Groups and we were excited about the tour, namely The Legendary Tempress, Grammy Nominated Andre Ray Former Lead Singer of L.T.D. Norman Carter of the Delfonics Experience whom actually worked 25 years with William Hart the Orginal Founder of the Delfonics, Klymaxx featuring Orginal Guitarist Cheryl Cooley, Chilly Bill Rankin of the Stax Records Mad Lads. Not to mention the Oldies Souldies concerts my wife Verdiana Jamison with LadiVee’s Production and Entertainment had to cancel featuring Melissa’ Morgan, Howard Hewitt, The Temprees, Chilly Bill and The Trumpeter “Jamaica Funk” Legendary Tom Bowne.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My career actually started working in the medical field at a world-class hospital systems called Baptist Memorial Hospital in East Memphis I’m proud of myself because I had to knock down barriers to get to where I am today in the music and entertainment industry and continue my career as a business owner and entrepreneur in my filed of study at Alternative Healthcare LA. The transition to the music and entertainment industry was indeed an incredible journey that I currently enjoy.
Subquencely after relocating to Los Angeles California I started working in the entertainment industry as a TV/Movie and professional stage Actor make my first stage performance debut in 2017 as a theatrical stage performer in The Truth Musical Hit Stage Play alongside some very talented actors and I never looked back. As a very outgoing person I wanted to expand in the industry and become a film director and produce movies and become a Playwright.
So I started working with a season Actor by the name of Stephen Solar know for Midnight Warrior and Speak of the Devil. Under his leadership I started writing Movie scripts and then wrote my first featured film titled Surviving Tough Times and afterwards I wrote my first musical stage play titled I Survived the Storm. I was Co-Star in numerous TV Series to name a few. The Price of Fame, Wicked and When Pride Comes Before the Fall all films were written and produced by Deonte’ Bolden
As of 2023 I was deemed a successful songwriter and Music Producer the founder of 5 Stars Music Group Concert Series and 5 Stars Records Label. Known for writing two Amazing Songs Titled The Turning Point. This work delves into the challenges faced by first-time offenders and explores pathways to redemption and societal reintegration. The lyrics were written based on personal experiences.

I am the Co-Producer of a Gospel Album titled Heaven Ams Recorded by Grammy Nominated Andre Ray Former Lead Singer of L.T.D. Andre Ray replaced the Legendary Jeffrey Osborne as Lead Singer of L.T.D when Jeffrey embarked on his solo career and carried L.T.D for many years afterwards. Andre also recorded the hit song “April Love” on LTD’s Greatest Hits album.

For the past decades I worked more like a Production Manager for the Legendary Temprees making sure all riders are approved and that the group is financially taken care of before performing on the main stage and booking the group on countless concerts throughout Southern California by working closely with Deljuan Calvin the Orginal Member and one of the Lead Singer for the group. In 2020 I was appointed as Executive Producer for The 50th Anniversary with a 15 State Tour but due to Covid Virus we had to postpone the Anniversary Celebration
For over a decade I dedicated myself to supporting the Temprees and offering my assistance to them because of a 36-year friendship with Del Calivin as our work relationship goes back to 1989 when we first met at in the Surgery Department at Baptist Memorial Hospital. It’s where we established a Mutual of Understanding regarding the privilege of me working with The Temprees.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I love the entertainment business and I appreciate the opportunity to meet some of the old school legends so I plan to continue working in the music industry because it’s something I enjoy.
However In the next 5-10 years, the music industry will likely see increased integration of AI in music creation, more direct-to-consumer (DTC) artist-fan relationships, and a further blurring of lines between different media formats. We can expect artists to release music more frequently, use social media to test new tracks, and build careers by finding unique, authentic styles that connect with audiences. While streaming will continue to dominate, D Toc strategies will become more common, and the live music market may shift as touring becomes more expensive.
In my opinion technology and creation will explode because AI as a creative partner: Generative AI will be used to help with songwriting, production, and even video editing, allowing artists to create music in novel ways.Audience-driven releases: Artists will increasingly release music more frequently, using social media to “tease” demos and get audience feedback before investing resources in full tracks, with the audience taking on a more active role in what gets produced.
Artist and audience relationships
Direct-to-consumer (DTC) models: Artists will push for more direct relationships with fans through digital platforms, bypassing traditional gatekeepers. Authenticity and cultural relevance: Breaking artists will likely combine unique styles with social media-friendly formats, and mainstream projects will need to have a strong pop-cultural impact to succeed.
