Today we’d like to introduce you to Yolanda Gibson.
Hi Yolanda, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I began my journey as a substitute teacher 15 years ago and saw a need to educate young minds before they enter the school system. 10 years ago, I opened Divine Angels Enrichment Center to cultivate young minds before starting their school career.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has been smooth and rocky. During the ten years of business, I can say seven to eight years of business was smooth.
During this time, I had some awesome parents supporting my vision for the educational growth of their children. Covid-19 was not a struggle for me, because was able to remain open. The struggle was seeing families lose their jobs due to Covid-19.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Divine Angels Enrichment Center?
My business is an in-home family childcare center. I provide childcare services for children ages 6 months to 5 years old.
I am known for providing quality childcare to children to prepare for Kindergarten. My center is different from others around me simply because I specialize in teaching children the valuable information needed for kindergarten and beyond.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
In the next 5-10 years, I see myself owning a center/facility instead of an in-home center. With this goal, I am hoping to reach more young minds in my community.
I also hope to bring substantial change to Tennessee for providers in my community. I am currently working to host provider meet-and-greets so that daycare providers around Memphis can meet and share resources.
