Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Thorne.
Hi Chris, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
The Bartlett Community Concert Band is a volunteer symphonic community band. The band was founded in 1991. Members do not have to live in Bartlett to be a member. The band is made up of all ages from the Mid-South, West Tenn, Arkansas, Mississippi. The band mission if for musician’s that played in high school, collage and work in other fields than music that miss playing and want to play music with a great community band. No additions to join the band. The band practices on Monday nights at Legacy Church in Bartlett. The bands season is from mid-January to mid Dec. The band performs all over the mid-south and average 15 concerts a year from home associations, churches, festivals. Memphis and West Tennesse veterans’ ceremonies and 4th of July celebrations. . Musical selections are from Masterworks for Wind Band, patriotic music, marches, show tunes and pop music. The band is a 501 (C) (3) nonprofit organization. The band has a membership of 65 members. I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My 30 years of being the President of the band the band there have been very few struggles. When the band started in 1991 the struggle was organizing the band and getting enough members to make a band. When I started there were only 30 members in the band and now we average 65 members.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
The Bartlett Community Concert Band is a musical outlet for musicians that are not professionals in music but still love playing their instrument and music. We want members to come and enjoy the experience of playing great music.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
The band consist of all ages from 16 to senior citizens,
