Conversations with Noah Joyner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Noah Joyner.

Hi Noah, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Noah Joyner, but I go by the rap name Kins. I’m a Christian rapper based in Germantown and Memphis, Tennessee. I’ve been making music for about six years, but I’ve only been creating Christian rap for the past year.

I’ve been a Christian since third grade, but for four years of my life, I was making secular music—music that glorified myself rather than God. It wasn’t filled with profanity or heresy, since my faith was certainly real, but it wasn’t music that directly honored the Lord.

In October of 2024, I felt a deep conviction about the music I was making. I felt God was calling me to delete everything and start using the gift He gave me to glorify Him. I spent time praying, asking others to pray for me, and seeking wisdom through Scripture. One night, as I was wrestling with the decision, I got on my knees and began to weep, praying:

“Lord, I just want to do what You want me to do. This is such a big step, so I need you to make it incredibly clear if Your will is for me to delete everything and start over.”

At that point, I had two albums, one EP, a few singles, and over fifty unreleased songs saved on my phone and computer. It was a huge sacrifice to even consider erasing all of it. But after I prayed, I felt an overwhelming peace and clarity wash over me. I knew what I needed to do. I said, “Okay, God—I trust You. I’m willing to give everything up because I believe what You have for me is better.” Then I deleted everything.

That night, I slept better than I ever had before—completely at peace and excited for whatever God had next.

Later that month, I released my first Christian rap single, “Display.” Right after posting it, I went on a camping trip with my family. I didn’t promote or push the song at all. When I checked Spotify a few days later, my monthly listeners had jumped from 35 (my old peak when making secular music) to 3,500—without any marketing or playlisting. It was such a beautiful confirmation from God that following His lead was the right choice.

Since then, the journey has been incredible. I’ve met and become close friends with other amazing Christian artists like Peair, Coastside, Yung Drew, Idego and more. I’ve had opportunities to travel and perform in places I never imagined—Atlanta, Alabama, Jacksonville, and more. I even had the chance to open for Trip Lee, Aaron Cole, and KJ-52, performing alongside my friend Peair and spending time with them backstage.

What amazes me most is that none of these blessings came from chasing my own glory. Every opportunity, every door that’s opened, has been from God. My old pursuit of self-glorification could never have brought me here. So every time something amazing happens, I can only give all the glory to Him—the One who convicted me, called me to start over, and continues to guide every step of the way.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Honestly speaking ever since I gave all the music up to the Lord the road has been smooth. Mostly because I know that whatever happens He is still in control and there is no need to fear or fret. I’ve seen Him work beautiful miracles why would I doubt that He is still in control.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a Christian rapper. My most popular song is titled “Display”.

What I’m most proud of is such a difficult question for me because I acknowledge that everything good that I have received is from the Lord so none of the glory or ability to be proud can go to meet but rather to God. I would say I’m most confident in the tapping ability that God has given me. In a not prideful but confident in Gods gift way, I really do believe I’ve been specifically gifted with the ability to write music, compose music, and rap specifically.

I think what sets me apart from other Christian Rappers or ever rappers as a whole is my sound and diversity. There aren’t really any rappers who the sound I do which makes me very distinct and noticeable. I also am a very diverse artist, if you put my catalog on shuffle one minute you’ll hear me rapping fast and the next all be on a slow beat. So I would say my ability to be very diverse sets me apart.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Yes I absolutely do. One thing that really helped me network with so many artists, producers, promoters, etc. is literally just DMing them on instagram. Every time I see somebody on my feed that is really good I always DM them complimenting their music, telling them I’m an artist, and letting them know I’d love to network. It doesn’t always work out but sometimes it really does. That is how I’ve met so many people like Peair, Coastside, Idego, YakiTheKid, and many others is just from DMing them.
