Today we’d like to introduce you to Timia Washington.
Timia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My love for makeup started as early as seven years old. Growing up in a house full of sisters and strong women, beauty was always around me. I used to sneak into my older sisters’ makeup bags—borrowing their mascara, 99-cent lip gloss, and playing around with their eyeshadow. Anytime something went missing, they already knew who to blame!
As I got older, that curiosity turned into a real passion. I’d spend hours watching makeup tutorials and practicing on myself and my cousins. Over time, my skills grew—and so did my confidence. My mom and aunts even gave me the nickname “Gifted Hands.”
It wasn’t until high school that I realized I could turn this passion into something more. I started doing makeup for prom and creating YouTube videos, and that’s when my family encouraged me to take it seriously. From that point on, I knew I had found something I was truly passionate about—and I’ve stuck with it ever since.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’d be lying if I said this journey has been easy. There have been moments when I questioned my worth as an artist and creative. I’ve gone through creative blocks that made me wonder if I even wanted to do makeup anymore, and that led to periods of inconsistency. The impact of COVID-19 hit hard—being so used to constantly moving, working, and booking clients, the sudden pause felt like a part of me stopped, too.
It was scary, but necessary. That time forced me to slow down, reflect, and really be present. I learned the importance of grounding myself and valuing every step of the process—not just the big wins, but the small ones too. Makeup is more than just a skill for me—it’s my art, my therapy, and something I hold sacred.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a multidisciplinary artist and influencer with a foundation in beauty, lifestyle, and storytelling. My journey began with makeup artistry—working one-on-one with real people, enhancing natural beauty, and discovering the transformative power of helping others feel truly seen.
As I’ve grown, so has my work. It now expands into content creation that weaves together beauty, wellness, and personal development. I specialize in soft glam, bridal, and editorial makeup, creating looks and stories that are both elevated and deeply personal—whether through makeup, skincare, or sharing my lived experiences.
What I’m most proud of is how I’ve evolved. I’ve transitioned from being known purely for makeup to building a space where self-expression and authenticity come first. I’ve found my voice through trial, healing, and creative risk-taking—and I use that voice to uplift others who are still finding theirs.
What sets me apart is my ability to connect art with emotion and transformation. I don’t just create to show something off—I create to say something, to help people feel something, and to turn everyday moments into something meaningful and magnetic.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My biggest advice for anyone just starting out is to start messy but stay consistent. You don’t need to have it all figured out to begin. The clarity comes from showing up, experimenting, and being willing to grow in public. Don’t wait for perfect lighting, perfect skills, or a perfect plan—just start creating.
Everyone’s timeline is different, and what makes you stand out is you. Your perspective, your story, your energy. Stay curious, stay teachable, and don’t be afraid to pivot if something no longer aligns. Growth sometimes looks like starting over—and that’s okay.
Lastly, protect your passion & invest in it. When you turn your art into a business, it can be easy to lose the joy. Make space to create just for you, no pressure, no performance.
