Daily Inspiration: Meet Christian Caldwell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christian Caldwell.

Hi Christian, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been interested in Fine Arts since a young age. I remember being interested in painting and creating portraits around the age of five years old. My mother enrolled me in art classes, sewing, dance, and piano at six years old. My love for fashion formed as I got older and became more fascinated with every single aspect of the fashion industry.

The feeling of embracing my creativity gave me a sense of joy. I’ve always loved colors, shapes, and patterns since an early age. My love for fashion was influenced by my mother. We shopped a lot, and I mean a lot! When she bought something, I knew I was getting something too.

She never allowed other people’s opinions of how she dressed, and how I dressed made us feel insecure or uncomfortable. Because of her, I gained confidence in knowing I could do anything if I put my mind to it. We attended fashion shows, and even had several fashion shows around the house, of course walking the runway in my very own creations. Dressing up in clothing that I made was the most beautiful feeling in the world!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has not been smooth, there have been a few challenges along the way. I’ve worked very hard professionally to where I am today. My work ethic and perseverance speak for themselves. I am constantly setting goals to reach.

I also believe in self-love affirmations because I am always striving to become the best version of myself from the day before. I’m not where I want to be, but I will get there. What pushes me to go further is the yearning to learn and grow. I also make goals to step outside of my comfort zone every now and then.

Being stagnant is not a part of my routine, I love moving forward. The most challenging aspect of my journey is trying to find a good work/life balance. I am a single parent raising a 6-year-old son. I work full-time as a designer in a corporation, while also maintaining my own business.

My day is complex, to say the least. It has been somewhat challenging to find that balance between work and family. I am beyond blessed to have such a supportive family and supportive tribe of friends.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The name of my brand is Christian Allana. “Christian Allana ” is a contemporary women’s ready-to-wear and evening wear collection with unique, edgy, and athletic details. My designs are simple and sporty silhouettes with hints of feminine details, textured fabrics, and athletic trims.

I enjoy the beginning stages are concepting a collection. Researching trends and fabric are at the top of my list! My passion is looking at and exploring images that inspire me. The feeling of being inspired to create something gives me this energy of new fashion possibilities. I work long and sometimes unusual hours. There are several deadlines which I have to meet for clients. The best part of my process is the end of the finale of the design. The process of a design culmination sometimes leaves me speechless in knowing, “I actually did this, and others will see my work and love it too.” It’s very rewarding!

The most exciting project that I recently worked on was a collaboration with Shein. This was a huge opportunity for me to showcase some of my designs and work with one of the largest online fashion retailers. I designed an eight-look collection specifically for the SheinX Program. This collection just dropped in May and is available online to purchase.

This was such a significant experience that allowed me a platform to showcase my collection on a global scale.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
I love Pinterest! That’s my go-to resource for inspiration. There are so many different images both new and old to look through and feel inspired by.

Another great resource is Vogue.com for the most updated runway shows and trends. Adobe Stock images are also a great tool for high-quality images for inspiration.
