Hidden Gems: Meet Angela Copeland of Recruiter.com

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Copeland.

Hi Angela, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I lead the marketing organization at Recruiter.com. My team is the sales enablement engine that drives lead generation, public relations, brand, and product marketing for the company’s complete product offering, including a SaaS-based artificial intelligence software technology. Over the years, I have worked across many industries, including software, financial services, insurance, home services, logistics, automotive, and travel. I have also held leadership positions at First Horizon National Bank, ServiceMaster Global Holdings, NEA Member Benefits, and FedEx throughout my career. And I’ve founded multiple businesses, including consulting practice Copeland Marketing Services and Copeland Coaching. I host the Copeland Coaching Podcast and write the newspaper column Career Corner. I wrote a book called “Breaking The Rules & Getting The Job,” and I gave a TEDx Talk titled “How I broke the rules & found my perfect job.” Giving back outside of the office is important to me. I have served on several non-profit boards, including the Memphis American Marketing Association, Memphis Area Legal Services, and the American Diabetes Association.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest struggle was to transition from technology to marketing. I started my career in technology with a BS in Computer and Systems Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Beginning with an undergraduate degree in computer engineering would have naturally led to a career as a computer programmer. Hiring managers didn’t initially picture me as a marketer due to my tech background. But, my work at FedEx, paired with an MBA from Pepperdine University, allowed me to transition to marketing. And Memphis was an incredible place for me to build my career, as I had the opportunity to work on many different projects within the marketing field. It took time, additional education, experience, and persistence to make the jump to marketing. But the hard work was worth it!
