I began my career in Memphis, where my early education at Booker T. Washington High School and Lane College helped shape a disciplined, entrepreneurial mindset. I gained foundational business experience through the ownership and operation of nightlife venues, which provided firsthand exposure to operations, customer engagement, branding, and financial management.
Building on that experience, I transitioned into brand development with the launch of Baseball Rich Clothing and later Toriano Exotics, focusing on scalable consumer products and strategic brand positioning. I then expanded into asset-based ventures as CEO of Banks Investment Group, with an emphasis on real estate, long-term equity, and sustainable growth.
I later founded Disbelef Tequila, a premium spirits brand distilled in Jalisco, Mexico, entering a highly competitive global market with a clear focus on quality, differentiation, and brand integrity. In parallel, I established The Writers Block to develop intellectual property across books, film, television, and interactive media.
Today, my work reflects the convergence of business strategy and storytelling, including the upcoming release of KINGPIN, a narrative-driven video game. My career has been defined by disciplined execution, diversified ownership, and a long-term approach to building scalable brands and enduring enterprises.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it has not been a smooth road. Like most entrepreneurial journeys, it involved navigating uncertainty, limited access to capital, and learning through real-world execution rather than ideal conditions. Early on, I faced challenges related to scale, cash flow management, and operating in industries where relationships, credibility, and timing are critical.
There were also moments of strategic recalibration—projects that required restructuring, brands that needed refinement, and decisions that demanded patience rather than speed. Balancing growth across multiple ventures while maintaining operational discipline was a continuous challenge.
Each obstacle, however, strengthened my approach to risk management, long-term planning, and leadership. The setbacks were not detours; they were part of the process that reinforced resilience, sharpened decision-making, and ultimately contributed to building sustainable, diversified enterprises.

That said, I don’t rely on luck as a strategy. The businesses I’ve built were shaped by consistent work, calculated risk, and the ability to adapt when conditions changed. When good luck appeared, preparation allowed us to capitalize on it. When circumstances didn’t go as planned, discipline and resilience ensured we could adjust without losing momentum.
Ultimately, luck may open a door, but sustainability comes from structure, decision-making, and long-term vision. In my experience, preparation determines whether luck becomes a brief moment or a lasting advantage.
