Life & Work with Brandon Locklear

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Locklear.

Hi Brandon, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Right now, I’m in a part of my life where I’m trying to mature. Trying to do right. I was just locked up so I’m getting on my feet and still fighting for my freedom as we speak.

My goal is to go hard on this rapping. Put my all into it, I disappear on social media and don’t text anyone. But it’s because I’m working, I’m focused. Whether it’s rapping or something else, I’m currently in the progress of working on an actual business, right now because I know I can’t rely on rapping.

But it’s always been in me to rap. Since I started school. You could find me in the hallways, rap battling, freestyling, or something. Even on the bus I and my brothers rapped. R.I.P my brother, Kwe.

But I even made my own recording room in my bedroom and scraped what I could to make my own studio at age 16. And every since it’s been a process, a lot of growth, but blood sweat, and tears were put in to get me this far.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Bumps, hills, potholes, it’s been everything but a smooth road. I feel blessed to have made it this far. A lot of things I’ve been through, and a lot of things I can’t speak on right now, but Anyone that truly knows me knows I ain’t the type to give up.

Originally from Robeson county in North Carolina. I put on for the 910. I ain’t have that silver spoon. I remember having no drip, my brothers had to put me on till I got it together.

Shoot, I remember when I was little, and if my friends wanted to come over they had to bring their own food just because we do not have it like that. I’m grateful my mom always worked and found a way to make sure we were ok because now, I grew up.

I can look back and appreciate a lot of the things she did do for us.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
What really sets me apart from others is my drive. I’ve always found a way to get money. I started working in the 8th grade. And been doing side hustles all my life. Yeah, I do my music but I do a lot behind the scenes too. Get to the bread by any means necessary.

I guess you can say I do trap music. I want to expand though. Work on other types of music. My mind is open to a lot more now, and I’m starting to dip my feet into other genres. I’ve recorded a few and they might drop soon. I’m just very picky with what I do post. A lot of artists just post whatever but for me.

It has to be spot on and perfect or you probably won’t ever hear it. And what I’m most proud of is that I’m still going even though I’ve been doing music since elementary. The fact that I haven’t given up with all that I’m facing right now, is proof I should keep going.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
To be consistent with it. Out of the times, I was most consistent the best had shown.

I try to interact with every supporter in the comment section. And I’m now starting to learn more about the advertising side of things. The biggest lesson I guess would be patience.

It takes hard work for sure but it’s not gone happen overnight.

Brandon has come from the struggle and he expresses his experiences, whether good or bad through his lyrics in his raps. Pay attention and you will hear the stories that he expresses in each of his songs, and I miss listening to rappers that tell stories in their music; in my opinion that is what separates musicians from artists. And Brandon is an Artist with his lyrics. Brandon AKA NLU CODEINE should have been recognized in the music industry, but legends never give up, and as he quotes in his latest hit Kill Sth, ” Imma be up at the tee top as long as I put in the work.” That’s exactly what he continues to do is putting in the time and work that comes with accomplishments and success!! NLU Codeine is an artist that I look forward to witnessing to succeed in his lifetime dream and dedicated hardwork that continues to strive and shine!!
